Did the victims of his attack get their day in court? - From: Abhiyya 2006 All over India people have condemned the attack on Parliament. And I agree that it was a terrorist attack and must be condemned. However, it is also important that the people accused of such a serious crime be given a fair trial and their story be fully heard before they are punished. I believe that no one has heard my husband's story and he has so far never been represented in the court properly. -------------------- [5] What Signifies October 2, 2006 for India? By Mr. Madhu Chandra www.madhuchandra.org October 2, 2006 October 2 is known for Gandhi’s Birthday celebration all over India. This year’s is more than just celebration of his birthday. The last and fifth day of Bengal’s greatest festival – Durga Pujo fall on it. Dushera, the burning of Ravana a symbol of victory over evil falls on it this year. But known by million Indians yet kept hidden of October 2, 2006 is fiftieth year completion of Bhim Rao Ambedkar, who is known as messiah of Dalit Indian communities, father and architecture of Indian Constitution who left Hinduism to flee from the clutches of India caste system by converting to Buddhism on this very day (according to Hindi calendar – actual English calendar fall on October 14, 1956). Watching close in TV news broadcasting and print news, almost nothing is covered of the event taking place in Nagpur where a million Indian Dalits who left Hinduism to follow the path Ambedkar, came to pay homage and have deep Diksha from very spot where Ambedkar left Hinduism in search total liberation from Hindu caste system by converting to Buddhism. TV News channels telecasted live coverage of three events – celebration of Gandhi’s birthday, Dushera and deep of Durga in rivers. One million Buddhists and Ambedkarians gathering in Nagpur on October 2, 2006 to mark fiftieth years celebration of Ambedkar’s conversion to Buddhism from Hinduism was left without coverage in Indian media. Many Indian Dalits particularly, Ambedkarians feel Gandhi was against abolishing Hindu caste system although he fought against the practice of untouchability which is considered just a symptom of caste. Many Dalits also believe the festival of burning Ravana is the symptom of Dalit oppression. Because many believe the Ravana was one of the powerful Dalit and indigenous king of an Indian kingdom. It has been also taught for centuries to the minds and hearts of Indian dalits and societies that Ravana was evil king and giant. A good characteristic of Ravana, which many people neglected to recognize, is about how he treated Lord Rama’s wife Sita during her captivity. In the episode of Ramayana, Ravana kidnapped Lord Rama’s wife Sita in revenge of chopping Ravana’s sister - Supernakha’s nose by Lord Rama’s younger brother Laxman, yet Ravana did not touch Sita’s holy life during captivity. No brothers in the world will remain silent spectators when their sisters are insulted in their presences. If Ravana would have remained silent spectator, it could have been insult and discrimination to female hood. While appreciating Hinduism and condemning other religion, fail to recognize the good characteristic of Ravana to protect and honor female hood. In spite of knowing this remarkable characteristic of Ravana, the tradition of burning his effigy every year in the month of October can be termed nothing other than to remind the symptom of oppressing Indian Dalits under Hindu caste system. Dalit liberation movement has become much stronger to leave Hinduism to liberate from caste oppression by converting to other casteless religions. Sangh Parivar holds on to Gandhi’s philosophy and considers Ambedkarians as threat to 3000 years old India’s upper caste strong holds. People movement is the power; it has taken its movement and will become more for Indian Dalits to liberate once for all from the clutches of Hindu caste system. Today micro minority Indian upper caste has all knowledge, wealth, political and judicial power, with which Sangh Parivar at all possibilities keep Indian dalits oppressed. People power, which is with Indian dalits, have started to realize to fight back to liberate themselves from the clutches of Hindu caste system. The seed, Ambedkar has sown fifty years ago, “Leave Hinduism to liberate from caste oppression” and the path he took, “I was born as Hindu, will not die as Hindu” has its shoot springs up in every Indian dalits’ heart. November 4, 2001, a symbolic mass movement in Delhi to leave Hinduism and today’s gathering of one million Indian dalits in Nagpur is the people power and people movement of ceasing caste oppression in Indian soil. The actual English calendar’s 50th years of celebration falls on October 14, 2006 Has set ready to mark the world day of religious freedom to challenge Sangh Parivar and its saffron political wing – Bharatia Janta Party’s (BJP) anti conversion drives in BJP rule states to keep Indian dalits under the caste bondage without allowing them to leave Hinduism. The sting of Hindu caste system has finally broke through and it has and will become crystal clear. ----------- [6] From: "editor@countercurrents.org" <editor@countercurrents.org> Date: Mon Oct 2, 2006 p Pakistan:Taliban Back In Business In Border Areas By Ashfaq Yusufzai http://www.countercurrents.org/pak-yusufzai021006.htm President Gen. When the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police picked up Firoz Deshmukh of the Islamic Research Foundation on July 14, they knew they had someone who could give information on the blasts, he knew Rahil Sheikh of Grant Road. So they got him to log in and chat with Sheikh while they watched. In the chatroom, Rahil opened up and gave Firoz a Bangladeshi telephone number. That was the second important breakthrough. The number was immediately kept under surveillance. The police began watching the mails from and to smellofflower@yahoo.com and Ibn_chand@yahoo.com. The password for both these emails was Jannat. When they spied on the messages and Internet chats on these emails, the police came across several phone numbers and got vital clues which finally led them to the Faisal Sheikh and Muzammil Sheikh. But Faisal turned out to be a hard nut to crack. The Mumbai police were not sure of his exact role into the blasts until Dr. Tanveer Ansari came into the picture. It was Ansari who spilled the beans on Faisal’s proximity to Lashkar terrorist Azam Cheema. “In the Bahawalpur base camp, I saw Faisal using Cheema’s Internet, dining with him. They were on back-slapping terms and shared a great rapport. I realised that they were close to each other. The blasts is 100 per cent the handiwork of Faisal,” Dr Ansari told in his statement to the Crime Branch. The police began interrogating Faisal again. “Lashkar would never attempt any big operation in Mumbai without keeping Faisal in the loop,” Ansari is reported to have told the police. This was later made a part of Ansari’s recorded statement. Meanwhile, the Crime Branch picked up another Faizal Shaikh from Manmad. But as soon as Faizal was arrested, the Bangladesh number stopped working and Rahil disappeared from the cyber radar. The confusion got confounded—who was Cheema’s Man Friday? Faisal of Bandra of Faisal of Manmad. For a while, it seemed that the Mumbai police were back to square one. “But we eventually realised that Faisal of Bandra was our man,’’ said a source. “Faisal led us to several major breakthroughs that opened the whole case for us,” says Deputy Commissioner of Police, Detection, Dhananjay Kamlakar. Faisal, however, had managed to hoodwink an entire team of investigators till Ansari’s arrest. It was after that his brother Muzammil was picked up in Bangalore. The case opened up again. Muzammil told the police that Faisal had also sent him and his brother, Rahil, to Pakistan via Zahedaan in Iran for training. It was now clear that Faisal held the key to the 7/11 case and that he was not talking. Faisal remained tightlipped even when he was put through a lie-detector. After a series of truth serum tests, he began to sing. He spoke of the involvement of Pakistanis in the operation, how they assembled the bombs at Mohammad Ali’s house at Govandi, Ehsanullah’s import of 15 kg of RDX to Mumbai, the bombs being kept at his house on July 10, a day before the blasts (a swab examination of his Perry Cross lane house confirmed remnants of RDX), how they were left on the trains and how one of the bombers, Salim from Lahore, could not get off the train on time after placing the bombs. shussain.zaidi@expressindia.com ----------- [11] From: Sukla Sen <suklasen@yahoo.com> Date: Mon Oct 2, 2006 Subject: Ireland Says No to Nuclear Energy http://www.irishexaminer.com/breaking/story.asp?j=227486060&p=zz7486875&n=227486\ 946&x= Irish Examiner 01/10/2006 - 2:56:14 PM Government says no to nuclear energy in Ireland The Government has ruled out any use of nuclear energy in Ireland in the future. --------------- |
