-------------------- [1] Brewing trouble again From: vishwa Hindu parishad <vhppress@gmail.com> Date: Oct 28, 2006 11:55 AM Subject: Saints will go to every district to garner support for Ram Temple. To: vivek p <vivek.vhp@gmail.com> *Saints will go to every district to garner support for Ram Temple.* New Delhi , 26 October, The highest body of Ram Temple agitation Ram Mandir Nirman Uchhadhikar Samiti has planned out a comprehensive programme to reach out to every district headquarters of India to give the momentum to ongoing Ram temple movement. VHP PRESS Vishwa Hindu Parishad Sankat Mochan Ashram, R.K. Puram, Sector-6, New Delhi- 110 022 011-26178992, 26103495 -------------- [2] From: "sanjeev nayyar" <exploreindia@vsnl.net> Date: Sat Oct 28, 2006 Subject: Exclude Creamy layer from Reservations for OBC, read SC judgment exploreindia@vsnl.net Namaskar Mitra, The Supreme Court gave a recent judgment to Exclude Creamy Layer from reservations for OBC's: SC judgment of October 2006 - the article reproduces the judgment in full. Since the apex court has held Caste to be the basis for backwardness the article gives you views of Swami Vivekananda and noted Gandhian Dharampal on caste. To read judgment - http://www.esamskriti.com/html/essay_index.asp? cat=800&subcat=799&cname=reser_ob\ c_oct06 Conclusion: 1.. Reasons for reservation are backwardness, inadequacy of representation and overall administrative efficiency are key to matter of reservation policy. 2.. Ceiling limit of reservations is 50%, concept of creamy layer to be adhered to. 3.. State can make reservations for SC/ST in case of promotions provided certain guidelines are followed. Food for Thought 1. Caste accepted as basis for backwardness. What it means that people belonging to a certain caste are backward. So by implication it means that a person belonging to the so called upper caste does not qualify for reservation even if he is poor / a backward. Amazing na! In Mumbai come across so many poor Brahmins who work as taxi drivers or watchmen, they must be denied reservation because they are Brahimns. Should not economic criteria be a better basis for reservation? 2. What the reservations policy of the last sixty years has done is to make people more aware of their caste? For e. g. in 2006 the UPA government or and its Allies wanted the private sector to reserve a large % of jobs for OBC's etc. A leading private sector co Hindustan Levers said that as per data available over 50% of their employees belonged to that category. So now when every employee is recruited there would be a separate column for 'Caste'. Are we not dividing the country further by highlighting caste of an individual? 3. The media keeps on cursing the caste system but never forgets to highlight the Caste factor during election analysis. 4. "It is owing to caste that 300 million people can find a peace of bread to eat. It is an imperfect institution no doubt. But if it had not been for caste, you would have had no Sanskrit books to study. This caste made walls, around which all sorts of invasions rolled and surged but found it impossible to breakthrough". Swami Vivekananda. 5. Caste made into Evil. Read views of noted Gandhian Dharampal, excerpts from his book 'Rediscovering India by SIDH'. "For the British, as perhaps for some others before them, caste has been a great obstacle, in fact, an unmitigated evil not because the British believed in castelessness or subscribed to non-hierarchical system but because it stood in the way of their breaking Indian society, hindered the process of atomization, and made the task of conquest and governance more difficult. The present fury and the theoretical formulations against the organization of Indian society into castes, whatever the justification or otherwise of caste today, thus begins with British rule". ---------- [3] From: Pradip Kumar Datta <pradip200@yahoo.com> Date: Sat Oct 28, 2006 Subject: Mizo move to check influx Mizo move to check influx OUR CORRESPONDENT Silchar Oct. 27: In a bid to check the influx of illegal migrants into the state, the Mizoram government has decided to step up its drive to identify and deport Myanmarese and Bangladeshi infiltrators from tribal areas. A senior state official said last night that following a series of high-level meetings of state officials, the government has decided to ask the administration of eight border districts to take remedial measures, which he said would be executed in phases, to tackle infiltration. The official said the state government was worried that Bangladeshis sneak across the border, first seek shelter in the Barak Valley districts and then move to Mizoram to eke out a living as small-time traders and migrant labourers. Retention of inner line permits issued under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873 is one among a slew of other measures introduced to check the illegal entry of migrants into the state. Mizoram chief minister and president of the ruling Mizo National Front Zoramthanga had categorically ruled out on October 18 the scrapping of the inner-line regulations. The other measures include imposition of the Inter-state Migrant Workmen Actand Contract Labour Act for regulating the flow of arrival of migrant labourers, fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Myanmar borders and maintaining vigil along the porous border. The new labour laws under the twin acts will make registration of non-Mizo labourers, working as construction workers and domestic helps, mandatory. The validity of the work permit would depend on the specified period of their stay in the state as mentioned in the inner-line permit. A source stated that recently a high-level meeting, attended by Union home minister Shivraj Patil, former DoNER minister P. R. Kyndiah and Union home secretary V. K. Duggal in New Delhi, discussed the use of barbed-wire fences along the Mizoram border. The additional secretary of the Union home ministry (border management) R. R. Sirohi recently visited Mizoram for an on-the-spot inspection of the international borders. He asked the Mizoram government to start work on border fencing in a phased manner. While the number of illegal Burmese Mizos inhabiting Mizoram has been estimated at 70,000, it also suspected that over 20,000 unauthorised non-Mizos, a majority of them Bangladeshis, have managed to settle in the remote parts of the state. --------- |
