Some of the examples of un Islamic traditions and customs imposed upon Indian Muslims are: Dargahs' worship, Moharam, aqeeqa, chauthi, chala, eeja, chaliswan, Shab-e-barat ,tehwari etc. How mindlessly Indian Muslims are following these un-Islamic traditions and customs ? Burqa is imposed just to assert their distinctive identity and to protect ladies from the stealing eyes of lustful men . Many Muslim girls stand unmarried today. Many more Muslim wives and mothers are suffering from ill treatment of their husbands and in- laws. No old age homes or asylums are opened for the rescue of neglected parents , wives or unmarried girls. Marriges are made compulsory and celebacy is prohibited. Every muslim woman and man must marry and conceive children .They cant escape from marriage. Why can't Indian Muslims establish some old age homes for the neglected parents and convents for the abandoned muslim women who abhore marriage and want to live like nuns ? Some additions - Mr Navjot Singh Sidhu has been convicted of culpable homicide - it was just bad temper, uncivilised behaviour, and road rage - not even an instance of political violence The BJP has lionised him as if he is some hero To say that it is not a serious occurrence would be one thing - though certainly a shameful one for a member of parliament - and to hold felicitations and receptions for the killing and conviction defies all logic Of course some readers would protest and claim he has indeed been a noble soul but to most ordinary mortals his statements on the television were not to put too fine a point on it shameless And then the BJP has the gumption to demand action other tainted personalities in the parliament! Orwell truly missed out on somethings because he hadnt met these characters. You may also add your own comments. My comments are as under: A.I. Stop acquiring agricultural lands for new industries. II. Let private entrepreneurs pay commercial rates. III. Compensating the landowners alone is far from adequate. All those dependant on the acquired lands must be appropriately factored in. IV. Local populace must have a say in the 'development' process. B.I. Stop making Singur a veritable war-zone. II. Withdraw immediately the coercive apparatus of the State. III. Release those who have been arrested. III. Drop all police cases against the protestors. IV. Compensate the victims of State/Party brutalities. C. Rethink model of Development. The text of the petition is reproduced below. Sukla To: Chief Minister, Govt. of West Bengal To The Chief Minister West Bengal Government Kolkata Sub : Restore peace, discard `Singur Model' of development Dear Sir, Shocked and shattered by the unabashed and unlawful police brutality at Singur, we are forced to urge you to leave the path of violence and terror unleashed by the state administration and to stop this undemocratic aggression on the farms and farmers. Singur is under virtual siege, people are denied of their fundamental rights, freedom of movements are infringed, access to informations are denied, police atrocities crossed all limits, the farmers are attacked, beaten up mercilessly, police barged into their dwellings, ransacked their houses, arrested them arbitrarily. These are reminiscent of 25th September 2006 when the same band of police had unleashed similar attack on the innocent farmers and the women folk of the locality including children. We have reasons to believe that the present state government does have least respect for democracy which we cherish so much. Let it be reinforced that this area happens to have been formed by an active delta building process, the soil is most fertile and fertility improves after every flood. It is the duty and responsibility of the government to protect such precious well irrigated multi-crop lands, which happens to be one of the best agricultural bases in India, rather than taking the suicidal path of self-destruction. Any attempt to destroy it goes against the spirit of development, the much advertised government rhetoric. Please stop this unmindful aggression forthwith, restore normalcy in the area and discard `Singur Model' of development which can at best be termed as perfect recipe for disaster. Thanking you, Sincerely, The Undersigned --------------- [6] From: "P. They have told us categorically that Pakistan has no interest in our azadi meaning independence. In name of our azadi and right of self determination Pakistan wanted to make Kashmir part of Pakistan. Now with every passing day policy makers of Islamabad realise that their dream of getting whole of Jammu and Kashmir with all of its resources will never become a reality. And in the present geo political situation and mounting problems of Pakistan it is becoming extremely difficult to continue with its Kashmir policy which is full of risks for Pakistan, its future and the region. So once again President Musharaf who also happens to be Army Chief of Pakistan as well, without any ambiguity said: 'he was opposed to independence for Kashmir and said that Pakistan will give up its claims on the state (of Jammu and Kashmir) if India accepts his four-point solution that includes demilitarisation and "self-governance with joint supervision mechanism".' <http://geo.yahoo.com/serv?s=97476590/grpId=1228021/grpspId=1705043779/msgId =52589/stime=1165436476> Full text available on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Mahajanapada The contents of the article are the ideas of its author. -------------------------- [7] From: "P. However, what is unfortunate is that the Government realised the importance of securing its frontiers only after the jehadi elements based in Bangladesh posed a threat to the security of India and several major acts of violence in different parts of the country in recent months were linked back to Bangladesh. The people of Asom have been crying hoarse on the problem of infiltration of foreigners into the State, which posed a threat to the identity of the indigenous people of the State and even a six year long agitation failed to force the Government of India to take notice of the change in the demographic pattern in the State. Only a threat posed to the security of the nation made the Centre realise the necessity of increasing vigil along the international border and steps have been initiated to secure the border to prevent the elements inimical to India from sneaking into the country from Bangladesh by taking advantage of the porous border. In fact, the Assam Police managed to nab activists of the jehadi groups and even agents of Pakistani Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) in the past few years after they managed to sneak into India from Bangladesh, but only now the Government has taken serious note of the situation. The BSF has been guarding the Indo-Bangla border since the day the force was raised on December 1,1965 and after realising the importance of increasing vigil along the international border, the force has been provided with modern gadgets like global positioning system (GPS) equipment, thermal image intensifier etc. The GPS instruments will definitely be of great help to the BSF men while guarding the riverine border as in the past, navigation after dusk was a major problem, while, increasing the visibility at night will check the anti-social elements from sneaking past the personnel of the border guarding force after sunset. The Government of India has also sanctioned construction of a new fencing along a stretch of 76 kilometres of the international border in Dhubri district and the survey for the same is complete and the actual work is likely to start soon. This is, of course, a positive sign and two Central Government agencies have been entrusted with the task of executing the project. The old fencing has almost become redundant because of its faulty design and the Government should take exemplary action against those involved in designing the same. The Comptroller and Auditor General of India(CAG) had pointed out irregularities in construction of border roads and fencing as well as diversion of funds earmarked for the same and the Government should take immediate action on the basis of the report to ensure that no such act is committed by anyone in future to make sure that the project to construct a new fencing is completed on time. Steps have also been initiated for reducing the distance between the Border Outposts (BOPs) of the BSF and five more BOPs have been constructed in Dhubri sector recently, of which, three are on chars, while, for the first time, a nine kilometre long fencing is being constructed on a char located in the international border. All these are of course, positive signs, but to deal with the problem of illegal migration of foreign nationals, the political will of the Government is a must. The Central Government and the Governments of the States having border with Bangladesh must launch a concerted effort to deal with the problem of infiltration of foreigners and elements of the jehadi groups inimical to India by setting aside their political differences. Over the years, majority of the political parties preferred to keep quiet on the problem, mainly to appease a section of people and to create a vote bank of foreign nationals, but the political parties must remember the fact that the security of the nation should be the first priority for them and they must join hands to thwart the demographic invasion and the threat posed to the security of the nation.
