[1] From: "Pradeep Deshpande" <proton54@hathway.com> Date: Fri Dec 15, 2006 Subject: Re: [indiathinkersnet] How many black days Babri Masjid needs to get justice? The Indian people have a century old tradition to celebrate both joyous and saddening events by gathering around the place of event on the date it took place. As against the poplar belief that people have a very short memory , it's a fact that they can't forget anything especially when it has some political significance. People celebrate Black Day , White Day, Resistance Day ... but hardly join hands to celebrate Indian Freedom Day and Republic Day. The reason may perhaps be; the event either should be religious or political or communally ignitable or all in one. Babri Demolition and attack on Parliament Building did bring shame to Indian Secular Democracy and deserve no celebration at all . But then you can survive without food and health and education in India ,but can't without celebration black or white Day .and that applies equally to our political leaders and parties.. it's our own reproduction. Can we survive without them ? The good course would be; just ignore them ;they deserve nothing more..! Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: I. K. Oddly, without any sense of irony, saffronazis want that Muslims abandon their demand for a Mosque (Babri cannot be replicated in any case) as a generous gesture, but they themselves are unwilling to drop their adamant AdVani demand -Mandir Waheen Banayenge- as a concession to national unity and communal amity. But it is national disunity and comunal disharmony that the saffronazis are pledged to and steeped in. They cannot be purged of it. Terrorism, saffron variety, will scorch and shred the nation as required by theofascism. ----------------- [2] From: "Pradeep Deshpande" <proton54@hathway.com> Date: Fri Dec 15, 2006 Subject: Re: [indiathinkersnet] Invitation for felcitation of Rev.Fr.Cedric Prakash at Mumbai Thanks for kind invitation. An Ad-hoc Central Coordination Committee with Dr. Chitra Tiwari as Central Coordinator will coordinate the network named as ???North American Network for Democratic Republic of Nepal (NANDRON)??? from Washington, D.C. The creation of the network of Nepalis in North America was necessitated in view of the delayed response of the political parties and the government of seven-party alliance to announce an interim constitution and form the interim government to facilitate the proposed elections to constituent assembly elections in June. The primary mission of NANDRON is to make an all-out effort through advocacy and awareness campaigns to help the political parties, civil society, and people of Nepal pursuing for the establishment of a democratic republic. We believe on the need for a highly coordinated, all-inclusive, and very powerful global campaign for the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Nepal. NANDRON members have expressed concern that any delay to announce interim government and the specific date for the election to constituent assembly has the likelihood of jeopardizing the fragile peace established following the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed on November 21, 2006 between the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and the government of seven-party alliance. NANDRON members have pledged to stand behind all republican democrats, irrespective of their political party affiliations, in Nepal to demand: * Immediate formation of the Unified Democratic Republican Front for the purpose of defeating the forces of regressive monarchy in the Constituent Assembly elections to be held in June 2007. * Immediate announcement of the Interim Constitution as agreed upon by the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and the Seven-party Alliance in the 8-point agreement at Baluwatar in June 2006 and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed on November 21, 2006. * Immediate formation of the Interim Legislature. * Immediate formation of the Interim Government * Immediate announcement of the date for the election to Constituent Assembly to draft a new constitution for the new Democratic Republic of Nepal. * Allow voting rights to Nepalis in Diaspora during the elections to Constituent Assembly. Let the voting provision be available for expatriates at their respective countries of residence. * Immediate action against those individuals implicated by Rayamajhi Commission as violators of human rights violations and crimes against humanity. NANDRON plans to organize meetings of Nepali expatriates and friends of Nepal all over North America in coming weeks and months with a view to encourage political parties and civil society members in Nepal to act in unison until the forces of regression are totally displaced and a republican Nepal emerges. Over one-hundred members coming from over 25 States and Canada belonging to various professional groups of professors, doctors, engineers, scientists, IT professionals, journalists, and businessmen have already signed up in NANDRON as active members. Further information on NANDRON will be available shortly at its website: http://www.NepaliRepublicansNetwork.org Dr. Chitra Tiwari Central Coordinator NANDRON -------------- [4] From: kashif <kaaashif@gmail.com> Date: Fri Dec 15, 2006 8:34 am Subject: Meet saathi Altaf Shaikh Indian Muslims Involved In Community Endeavors <http://indianmuslims.info/articles/special_reports/saathi/articles/ind\ ian_muslims_involved_in_community_endeavors.html> *A common perception is that Muslim lacks leaders at the grass root level. Where are leaders like Medha Patkars, Sundarlal Bahugunas, Irom Sharmilas from the Indian Muslim community? * *In a four part series Charu Bahri looks closely at one such leader Altaf Shaikh who is making a difference for many Indians.* *Part I* The Indian Muslim community is familiar with film stars, leading corporate honchos ??“ think Azim Premji of Wipro ??“ and sports luminaries it has produced but is sadly still unaware of its Altaf Shaikhs who are doing a yeoman's service for the community. So who is Altaf Shaikh? When we at *IndianMuslims. info* decided to seek out and focus on lesser known Indian Muslims working with the community, we decided that Altaf Shaikh, a founder member and trustee of Saathi, an NGO ??“ officially registered as a society and public trust ??“ working with street adolescents in Mumbai represented the kind of person we had in mind. ---------- [5] From: "sanjeev nayyar" <exploreindia@vsnl.net> Date: Fri Dec 15, 2006 Subject: Justifying Reservations on a/c of Centuries of Discrimination, Myth or Reality Namaskar Mitra, My latest article: Justifying Reservations on a/c of Centuries of Discriminations: Myth or Reality. August 31, 2006 'The proponents of 27% reservations for OBC argue that it would help them overcome centuries of discrimination. I wondered! If indeed, such was the animosity between the forwards and backwards how did the Indian Civilization survive for over 5,000 years. A Google search led me to ‘The Beautiful Tree: Indigenous Indian Education in the 18th century’ written by noted Gandhian Dharampal. The book gives, at the beginning of British rule number of schools and caste composition of students. The author referred to British & Indian archives and reproduced reports of surveys undertaken by the British (between 1800-1830) in Madras Presidency amongst others.
