Beware BJP's new-found communal plank: Karat

CPI(M) to prepare charter for advancement of Muslims

·  Struggle against SEZs will continue
·  Concern over rising prices

KOLKATA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has
decided to bring out a "comprehensive charter for the
advancement of the Muslim community in the
socio-economic, educational and employment spheres,"
general secretary Prakash Karat said on Thursday. He
also warned against the "newfound aggressive communal
plank" the Bharatiya Janata Party had adopted.
Addressing a press conference on the completion of the
party's three-day Central Committee meeting, which was
preceded by a Polit Bureau meeting here, Mr. Karat
said, "The BJP is falling back on what it knows best —
trying to raise communal passions even though
experience shows that the people have understood and
rejected the party's line in the past."

"Minority baiting"

He said, "It has adopted a rabidly communal platform
at its national council session in Lucknow. The
hallmark of this stand is minority baiting. The BJP is
playing a very dubious game with its talk of fighting
terrorism which, like its stand on the execution of
Afzal Guru or its attitude to the Justice Sachar
Committee report, is motivated by a communal outlook."

Mr. Karat said, "The Sachar Committee report has
effectively exposed the entire propaganda of the BJP
about minority appeasement." The Central Committee
decided to continue the party's struggle "against the
manner in which Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are
being set up all over the country, in which
indiscriminately large tracts of land are being taken
over."

Mr. Karat said, "The present rules promote real estate
speculation, and the CPI(M) is working for amendments
to the SEZ Act and the rules." The party also wanted a
"major overhaul of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894."

The Committee felt that "the opposition in West Bengal
and some other forces outside have sought to
misrepresent the Singur project as an SEZ." Supporting
the West Bengal Government's moves on the project, the
Committee noted that the land-use policy formulated by
it "should become the basis for the use of land for
industrial and development projects."
The party also expressed concern over the United
Progressive Alliance Government's "failure to check
rising prices and the rising rate of inflation."
"The procurement policies are a shambles, and the
public distribution system is affected," Mr. Karat
said, regretting that the recommendations of the
National Commission of Farmers were yet to be taken
up.

To me, it is rather more pity that a nation of more than 1 billion
population is driven to the past as we remained misguided
and lured by the western trends to shape our future as they
wanted us to shape.. since they controlled the economies of
poorer nations including India after WWs. China simply was
wise enough to the temptations and persued its own track
rather than falling in the rut where other nations were driven.

Indians are raising other questions but Indians are Indians
   and cannot be easily protyped.

Capitalism is cracking and facing a wall- like socialism and
communism has already Shadiji. For evolving human mind
and needs of human race all 'isms' would work adhoc unless
and until these are based on Natural Cosmic Laws.

to see the future. Why are we quite and not ask how
did China become such a great industrial nation while
in 1990 both nations were at same level.

what we talk is to stop all the progress and go on
andolan for one reason or other. I read letters where
people wish to leave some states as it is. I have
never seen anyone writing and questiuoning how we
indtend to be a self sufficient nation in all aspects.
we have laeaders who threaten their lives because some
industry might find new jobs for them.

Why dont we ask how to creat and rebuild our
infrastructure and bring latest equipment and
mchacinery to creat more jobs. Why dont we ask what
are all these ministries doing?

I have these kind of questions and maybe it does nto
sound good but for God sake leave the grloripous past
behind beause it had its drawbacks and maybe it was
this type of thinkjing that kept India enslaved. It is
time to wake up and start thinking of future. we hae
already wasted 60 years in name of socialism. Show me
one nation which under that system has flourished.
Compare East Europe with Western Europe.
Well I know some of us have phobia against West but
almost all the technology comes from West. We only
copy it and have not been able to improve much. so my
honest opinion is leave the faults of West which are
many but learn the good things from them.

Shadi
