NCM member to file report on Jhabua rape incident New Delhi, Jan 19 (UNI) Expressing concern over snowballing violence in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh following the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in a Christian school, the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) today said it would send one of its members to look into the incident. NCM Chairman Tarlochan Singh told UNI that Mr A Augustine would be leaving for Jhabua soon to ''look into the ghastly incident'' and file a report. Mr Singh also sent a letter to state Chief Minister Uma Bharti, urging her to ensure that peace and communal harmony was maintained. ''I fully realise that the State Government is very cautious and the Collector has taken positive steps after knowing the fact that the murderer did not belong to the minority community,'' he said in his letter. However, he cautioned the Administration that anti-social elements would definitely try to foment more trouble in the district and ''we in the Commission are very much concerned with the attacks and counter-attacks as reported in the media.'' The NCM Chairman said the state government should not allow taking out of processions and counter-processions, which would only create more tension and disturb communal harmony in the district. On January 11, the young girl was raped and murdered in a missionary school in Jhabua. As the news of the incident spread, clashes broke out between people belonging to the two communities. Several thousand residents had earlier 'gheraoed' the missionary school where they burnt an effigy of the head of the institution and demanded his arrest. District collector Arun Bhatt has assured that the culprits would be nabbed very soon. Mr Singh said the Christian missionaries and institutions, including churches, should be fully guarded. ''The State Government can hold meetings with community leaders so that rumour-mongering is not allowed to disturb peace,'' he suggested. http://www.deepikaglobal.com/ENG1_sub.asp?state=ES23%2CMadhya+Pradesh |
