The shutdown is being observed on a call given by the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and several Muslim and communist organizations in the state. Several towns are witnessing protest rallies in the state. Though the chief minister is still saying that only 16 people were killed Friday in blast and the subsequent police firing, the total number of casualties from the blast if Muslim leaders are to be believed has come to nine while 10 persons were killed in police firing. Notwithstanding the fact that no organisation has called for a shutdown in other parts of the state, many traders and business establishments have voluntarily shut down shops in a mark of protest. In towns like Adilabad, Hindus also joined their Muslim brethren in rallies to protest the bomb attack. Led by party leader and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, MIM activists staged a sit-in in front of the office of Director General of Police (DGP) in Saifabad, throwing traffic out of gear in the heart of the city.
