Film review: Parzania
http://www.khabrein.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1192&Itemid=70
Making film is about telling the story on screen, but
at times the story is so strong that the telling isn't
as important anymore. This is true about Rahul
Dholakia's Parzania that is one of the best movies
produced on the Gujarat pogrom.

The film is based on the Gujarat riots 2002 when more
than 2000 Muslims were killed and several hundred
thousand people were made to leave their homes to find
a place in one of innumerable refugee camps that
dotted every large Muslim locality at that time.
Several thousands, as per a panel set up by Supremem
Court said on June 4 2007 that there are still around
80000 Muslims living in these refugee camps. Parzania
revolves around a Parsi family in Ahmedabad. Cyrus
(Naseeruddin Shah) is the local film projectionist
married to Shernaz (Sarika). Their kids, Parzan, 10,
(Parzan Dastur) and Dilshad, 8, (Pearl Barsiwala) are
an imaginative pair, and, as they cavort around the
breakfast table, they are a credibly happy household.

The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, one of the world's top bio-diversity hotspots which hosts several endemic species of plants and animals, might just fall off the world biosphere map altogether if the proposed multi-dam Pandiar Punnapuzha Hydro-electric Project comes up at Gudalur near Udhagamandalam, better known as Ootty

Makka Masjid blast victims unable to come out of shock

By Khabrein Staff Reporter:

Hyderabad, June 7: People whose relatives were killed
in Hyderabad?s historical Makkah Masjid blast, or
those who were injured on the occasion or in the
subsequent police firing are unable to come to terms
with what happened with them. The worst is the case of
those who lost not only relatives but also the sole
bread earner of the family. The bomb attack on the
17th century mosque, the worst in the city?s history,
has shattered the dreams of several families and
changed the lives of many forever

Urdu as medium is endangering the Muslim student

By Firoz Bakht Ahmed
http://www.khabrein.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1204&Itemid=88
As things are, India is forging ahead now, but its
Muslim minority is still largely primitive and
uneducated. It is the responsibility of Muslims more
than anybody else to see to it that the community does
not lose out on an enlightened education.

Now that the Urdu medium schools' results are out,
these stand absolutely exposed. "Right from the
beginning of this session to now, 74 Urdu-medium books
of Class 1-12 are not available and there are 50
vacancies for various subjects in most Urdu medium
schools," laments Maroof Khan, the headmaster of Zakir
Hussain Memorial School, an Urdu-medium school of
Delhi. It's a shocking revelation.
