[1] GOHANA KILLING: A NATIONAL LEVEL FACT FINDING TEAM REPORT A Dalit Youth Murdered allegedly by Upper Caste and Dalits Responded in Irate Protest all over Haryana and Haryana Roadways Buses Torched By Mr. Madhu Chandra, Human Rights Activist New Delhi, September 1, 2007 (All India Christian Council) A dalit youth murdered allegedly by upper caste in Gohana where upper caste villagers torched 50 Dalit homes exactly two years ago. Dalits all over the state protested burning down the Haryana Roadways buses in different parts of the state. Gohana once was unknown to the world but is known for the fact the caste war incidents in 2005 and now. National Level Fact Finding Team led by Dr. Udit Raj – National President of Indian Justice Party and National Chairman of All India Confederation of SC/ST Organizations, along Rev. Madhu Chandra – Regional Secretary of All India Christian Council and National Executive Members of SC/ST Confederation met bereaved family and Balmiki (Dalit) communities of Gohana on August 30, 2007. (Picture: Dr. Udit Raj addressing to Dalit Community at Gohana) Rakesh alias Lara, a dalit youth from Gohana was murdered on August 27 by unidentified persons allegedly assuming to belong to upper caste. The bereaved family members reported to the fact finding team that the death body of Lara was left thrown out in Balmiki colony of Gohana after police took it for postmodern in Rohtak district head quarter. The response from Dalit communities this time is very different compare to the past incidents. Dalits often remained fear and escape for survival whenever atrocity happens on them. But this time is very different as Dr. Raj says. Police has arrested three minor Dalits - Akash, Deepak and Jagminder sent to judicial custody for crime of irate protest in demand of justice to Lara and his bereaved family members. After police failed to trace and book the culprits, Dalits of Haryana and else where came out in wide spread protest. It seems state or national government has no ears to hear to dalits' cry until the nation burns. At the time of National Level Fact Finding Team met the Lara’s family and Balmiki communities of Gohana, police nor state government did not trace the culprits. Fact Find Team demanded Bhupinder Singh Hooda to setup CBI enquiry on Dalit youth killing and pay compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs to family members of the victim. (Picture: Mob in Irate Protest at Panchkula) Seema Bahadur President of Dalit Jan Kaliyan Samiti (Haryana) reports to the Christian Council that her organization launched out protest in Chandigarh other cities and towns in demanding state government to book the culprits and punished as per SC/ST Atrocity Prevention acts. Two years ago, when 50 dalit homes were set on fire by upper caste community in revenge of a upper caste man was killed accidentally in personal conflict. While addressing to Lara bereaved family members and Balmiki communities, Dr. Raj said that until Dalits takes up the footpath of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, who said to leave the religion that oppresss and embrace the religion that does not. Dr. Raj once again affirmed to Dalit communities of Gohana this time that until Dalits build up strong themselves by taking up the footpath of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Dalits in Haryana will keep suffering under the caste stigma. After four days of irate protest all over the state and torched the Haryana Roadway buses, Mr. Navdeep Singh Virk – Senior Superintendent of Police arrested three accused murders - Naresh of Busana village, Sanjay Butania of Butana and Dinesh of Mudlana. Accused was produced before the magistrate and later sent to police custody for five days. So long Indian Dalits have waited and suffered, but Gahana II episode shows that dalits will revolt whenever atrocity takes place on them.
