Parivar demands its pound of flesh BHOPAL, DHNS: The RSS and organisations allied to it have staked claim over BJP tickets for at least 10 (of the 29) Lok Sabha constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. The RSS, VHP, Bajrang dal and Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad, informed sources say, want a reward for the "selfless work" done by their activists in tribal areas of the State. The BJP, they argue, has reaped the benefit of their work in the assembly elections. In the last Lok Sabha elections, Mr Jaibhan Singh Pabaiya, a former national chief of the Bajrang Dal was fielded from Gwalior by the BJP and he won with a handsome margin. In the assembly elections, the BJP was forced to change its candidate from the Dhar constituency at the last moment due to intense pressure mounted by the "Hindu Jagran Manch", an RSS affiliate, which spearheaded the "Bhojshala" movement in Dhar. Bhojshala ??” ancient, protected monument ??” was being used as both a mosque and a temple and the Manch led a campaign to declare it a temple and allow Puja inside the structure. The VHP has been active in the Dhar, Jhabua, Khargone and other tribal districts of the State for the last several years. A campaign for the "Hinduisation" of the tribals was launched by an organisation associated with the VHP in the three districts. The campaign yielded handsome dividends for the BJP, which, for the first time in history, won all the five assembly seats in Jhabua district. http://www.deccanherald.com/deccanherald/mar092004/n2.asp ------------------------------------------------------------ RSS working to increase vote tally BHOPAL: The Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) has directed all BJP leaders in the Lok Sabha constituencies to ensure an increase of 10 percent vote count in each Lok Sabha constituency. This targeted increase in the popularity of the party and also ensure the fulfilment of the 29 seat victory target set by the party. BJP state general secretary (organisation) Kaptan Singh Solanki informed that the party is already holding 21 out of the total 29 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Eight of the 29 seats are with the Congress. Our main aim is to win all the 29 LS seats in the state. On the eight Congress seats, the BJP candidates lost by a margin of less than 8 per cent votes. We have set a 10 percent increased target to ensure that BJP votes bring victory to the party on all 29 seats. He said the strategy during this election would be to lay emphasis on the Lok Sabha seats where the Congress won during the previous Lok Sabha elections. These seats include Guna, Khajuraho, Rewa, Chhindwara, Rajgarh, Khargone, Dhar and Jhabua. He said Chhindwara, Dhar, Jhabua, Khargone Lok Sabha seats have a large percentage of tribal population who are not happy with the Congress. Consequently they voted for the Gondwana Gantantrik Party during the Assembly elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a package for tribals and thus we are confident that their votes would be largely diverted towards BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Rajgarh Lok Sabha seat will also come the BJP way as the people are not happy with the Congress. The former chief minister hailed from Rajgarh and this is one of the areas where no developmental activities were carried out. The local Congress leaders committed atrocities on residents and community fines caused a general resentment. Rewa has also turned into the BJP's turf overnight. The Congress stronghold considered Rewa voted for BJP all across the constituencies during the Assembly elections. Solanki said the target of all 29 Lok Sabha seats was not difficult to reach as the BJP had a lot of achievements up its sleeve and a strong pro incumbancy factor was working for the party. Today the farmer was also experiencing the feel good factor and getting a fair price for his produce. Power and water was in abundance that did away with most of the worries of the farmers. He said the party leaders and workers were full of enthusiasm and we expect to complete the given target of 29 seats in the State. Adhir Kumar Saxena |
