Madhya Pradesh Christian Community Organize Protest Rallies Against Atrocities

Bhopal: Christian community in Madhya Pradesh organized a massive rally along with around twenty organizations against the atrocities on Minority community and Dalits. It is the first such rally taken out by the Christian community after the murder of Sr. Rani Maria in 1998. The rally started from St. Mary Church, Seva Sadan , Bhopal to TT Nagar Bhopal. This rally is the continuation of the protest rally organized in Indore, M. P on Sunday. Closing down of schools run by the Diocese of Indore.

It was a splendid view to see around three thousand people carrying candles and walking in discipline to wards their destination. A twenty-seven member delegation lead by the Archbishop Dr. Leo Cornelio met the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Dr. Balran Jhakard at 7 pm. The delegation apprised him of the serious situation arising out in the State and asked for enquiry into the attacks on Christian community, Muslims and Dalits in the state.

Governor assured the delegation that strict action will be taken on the culprits and an enquiry will be carried out. He said , “ I am also studying the counter cases filed against the sisters by the members of the Dharm Raksha Samiti Members. Proper decision will be taken soon.”

From the time the BJP came into power in Madhya Pradesh there has been a number of instances against Christians and Muslims in the state. There has been over hundred small and big instances against Christians in the State. It is also to be noted that there are many atrocities against the Muslim Community too. The police and the local administration did not file FIR against the riots instead the Muslims were accused of rioting.

Commending on the attacks on the five nuns Archbishop Dr. Leo Cornelio, (Chairman, Catholic Bishops Council), called it as blatant attack on human rights and blot to the soul of the nation and sign of cowardice”.

Budhist priest Bande Sagar said,” Over the few years there has been a continues efforts by the fundamental forces to disturb the Dalits too. He said that grate leader of the nation and most adored Dalit leader Dr. Babasab Ambedkar’s statue has been desecrated and destroyed. There is a conspiracy to disturb the communal harmony in the state.”

The incident took place while Five nuns belonging to the Franciscan Clarist Congrigation took part in a prayer service organized at Mr. Anila Kujur’s house in honour of Mother Mary. It happened at Banganga Police station area in Raseli , Nai Basti , Bhagirathpura, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The Nuns who were beaten are Sr. Jincy (4o), Sr. Sayujia (27), Sr. Pavitra (26), Sr. Sweta (26) and Sr. Anna Maria (27).

After the Christian community in Madhy a Pradesh decided to hold a hunger strike at Indore the higher officials involved into the matter and police registered FIR on Saturday, 27th October late night. It was done after the Christain community almost declared to go on hunger strike is FIR not registered. Sr. Jincy denied any sort of allurement to convert anybody into Christianity. She said,” we had gone to attend the Rosary Prayer at Mr. Anil Kujur’s house. Mr. Anil is a catholic by birth and the driver of our convent. They beat us mercilessly and threatened to burn alive.” The assaulters belong to the Sang Parivar Organization named Dharma Raksha Samiti. The police slapped minor chares on the persons who attacked nuns, ( Members of Dharm Raksha Samiti ). The police arrested the culprits and got them bailed out. It all looked like a drama and mockery of Indian law and democracy.

Mean while convenor Of Dharma Raksha Samiti , Mr. Kamal Waghela accused that , “ sisters have done conversion in the locality and they have allured people to accept christian faith, and they people who came to meet sisters after the prayer picked up a quarrel on this issue which lead to clash between the sisters and our workers.”

Mr. Mahendra Vajpay , M. P, State Secretary, Communist Party of India, condemned the incident and called for a serious enquiry into the matter and said BJP has been trying to disturb the communal harmony in the state. We will not allow this to take place in Madhya Pradesh. It is a gorse violation of human rights and constitutional provisions.”

Expressing anguish over the incident Fr. Anand Muttungal said “ it is a clear sign that the fundamental organizations working under the umbrella of the Government is trying to draw attention to itself by mischievous and heinous crimes against Christians, Dalits and Muslims. The chief Minister needs to control them to rule the state properly.”

An ancient idol of Lord Sabranath was stolen from a Jain temple in Kurdi village of Baghpat district in UP. Unidentified men entered the temple and took away the idol. The idol was never recovered.

A rare manuscript written by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb called 'Gulistan' was stolen by unidentified miscreants from a school library in Gaya district of Bihar. Police suspect some organized racket of international smugglers dealing in antiques to be behind this theft.

The country's first Nobel Prize, won by Rabindranath Tagore in 1913 was stolen with his several other personal belongings from the safety vault of the Museum of Visva Bharati University at Santiniketan. Police is yet to make any breakthrough in this case.

When ever such news items hit the headlines there is murmur in the civil society about the loot of the antiquities that's going on unabated in the country. There is a sense of pain and anguish among the countrymen towards the carelessness attitude of the law enforcing agencies to curb such anti-national activities.

Gujarat: Silence Of The Lambs By Shoma Chaudhury

http://www.countercurrents.org/chaudhury011107.htm

The real faultline in India today is not between Hindus and Muslims. It is between Hindus and Hindus. If the Hindus of Gujarat are going to re-elect Modi after being confronted with visual proof of what he stands for, we have to aggressively reclaim what being Hindu means. The problem is too few people seem to have a stomach for that fight. It is not a fight that can be won by burning and slashing. Or ducking. It requires words and eloquence and conviction

Narendra Modi And Indian Democracy: They Two Cannot Coexist By Daya Varma & Vinod Mubayi

http://www.countercurrents.org/mubayi011107.htm

The hesitation of the UPA government, which survives with the support of the left parties, on the Gujarat genocide is beyond comprehension. This marriage between parliamentary democracy and feudal highhandedness must be broken if India is to emerge as a modern democratic society

Sri Lanka: “SURPRISE!”Seems To Be The Wonder Weapon… By Chandi Sinnathurai

http://www.countercurrents.org/sinnathurai011107.htm

The October 23rd. attack by the Tiger Kamakazi-type commandos on the Anurathapuram air force base have proved the Government strategy and security systems to be wanting. A multi-million dollar spy fleet was totally devastated, in this dawn-combat while they were still grounded. Military analysts, both foreign and local, are of the mind that, the Tigers have effectively neutralised the intelligence gathering capabilities of the Sri Lankan armed forces

New Package For Gilgit And Baltistan: New Bottles With Old Wine By Dr Shabir Choudhry

http://www.countercurrents.org/choudhry011107.htm

Islamabad has tried to show to the EU and other members of the international community that they believe in their own brand of 'democracy' and human rights, and they are willing to give this to people of Pakistan and people of Gilgit and Baltistan. But what they have given will not satisfy people of this area, as they know they are given old wine in new bottles; and it will not result in more political, economic, social rights for the local people. It will surely not improve status of women, stop violations of state subject law or deal with settlement of non - local people and their domination
