Addressing a seminar on 'Girl Infanticide' organized by All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) at Imarat Shariah office in Phulwari Shareef, Patna, Maulana Rahmani said on all India basis, there are only 927 females against every 1000 males. The situation is not much good in Bihar also where only 942 girl children exist against every 1000 male children. He called on the nation and the society to understand the magnanimity of the impending crisis. Maulana Rahmani said it is generally believed that women will become self-confident and self-dependent if society becomes educated but in fact this is not so. Punjab is a developed state but female to male sex ratio there is 798 to 1000. In Gujarat, 79 female births per 100 male births have been registered. There are thirteen such localities in Delhi where only 750 girls have been recorded against every 1000 boys, whereas the number of such localities increased to 46 in 2001. Ameer-e-Shariat Maulana Nizamuddin said the girl is a boon and beneficence of Allah but now-a-days she is considered a burden. He said there is a great need of starting a movement against the evil. He further said AIMPLB will make all possible efforts to save the society from this curse. The gullible youth are easy catch for these fly-by-night operators. Several youth in central Kerala have fallen into the trap of these tricksters. These Internet sites e-mail job seekers and prepare fake listings by stealing personal information. Sooraj, a Pathanamthitta-based Commerce graduate, received an email which offered him some good jobs in the UK. He applied and got a response that he was selected for the job. The job offering company asked him to submit a physically fit certificate from a senior doctor. He got a certificate attested by a doctor and send the same after scanning it. The application form which had appeared on the web had questionnaire seeking personal details. Sooraj again got a mail informing him that he was successful and would be offered a ? 2525 per month job at a private college in London. The offer was highly lucrative for a youth like Sooraj with no exposure to the international arena. Here came the catch. The company sent an email suggesting him to pay ? 250 or ten per cent of his proposed salary to the company to an account created by a credit card. Sooraj somehow paid the money demanded by the agent site. However, once the money was paid, there was no response. Even after three months of sending the money, he is yet to get any intimation from the foreign company. Sooraj has lodged a complaint with the police, and it is learnt that the cyber cell of the police department have started investigation. Unfortunately, there are several thousand of youth who have already been cheated but they do not complain for the fear of rebuke by friends and family. With the pseudo prestige at its height, the average Keralite prefer not to complain, and that is why they are becoming easy victims of these fake career sites, opine sociologists. A leading sociologist with the MG University on the condition of anonymity told The Pioneer, "The Keralites are having pseudo ego and to satisfy this we will do anything even without thinking for a second time. This is the major reason for the formation of all the fly-by-night companies in Kerala.
