From: "chro chro chro" <chro@rediffmail.com> Date: Sun Jun 27, 2004 Subject: Father Of Gujarat Encounter Victim Demand CBI Probe CHRO News, June 26-27, 2004 Representation By Javed's Father To Kerala CM Seeking CBI Probe Into Gujarat Encounter Killings Before the Hon??ble Chief Minister of Kerala Govt. Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram Representation submitted by M. R. Gopinatha Pillai residing at Manaladi Thekkathil, Kottackattusseril, Thamarakulam Village, Alappuzha District, Kerala. Sub.: Request for CBI Enquiry on the murder of 4 persons by Gujarat Police In the last week my son named Pranesh Kumar alias Javed was murdered by the Gujarat Police near to Ahmedabad while he was traveling through Gujarat with other 3 persons. Gujarat police claims that my son as well as the other persons who were murdered belong to a terrorist group. This allegation is raised without any foundation or any credible investigations. I as well as the general public in India is under a bonafide impression that it is a trap shooting done by the Gujarat police for some ulterior motives. My son is a law abiding citizen who have not involved in any criminal activities. Murder of my son by the Gujarat police is a blatant violation of the human right protection given to a citizen and more over this is a violation of the agreement entered by the Government of India in the ???Geneva Convention???. Not satisfied by the murder of my son, now the Gujarat police frequently harssing my daughter-in-law under the guise of investigation. Police is compelling my daughter-in-law to give statement as dictated by them and also they are propagating false informations and allegations through media as if told by my daughter-in-law. Since this is an instance in which a basic human rights stands violated even that by a State Police needs to be investigated by an impartial investigation agency like Central Bureau of Investigation. Hence I humbly request your goodself to initiate appropriate measures to see that impartial investigations to be carried out by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Dated this the 24th day of June 20004 Petitioner: M. R. Gopinatha Pillai Signed 26/06/04 ------------------------------------- Judge By Yourself : Tale Of Two News On Encounter Killing New Indian Express, June 27, 2004, Sunday 1) Father??s plea for CBI probe into encounter death KOCHI: M.R.Gopinathan Pillai, father of Praneshkumar alias Javed, one of the three alleged Laskher-e-Toiba terrorists gunned down by Gujarat police, has urged an impartial inquiry into the killing of his son. He told the media here on Saturday that his son was wrongly framed. The ???murder?? of Pranesh was a blatant violation of the human rights. He demanded a CBI probe into the ???encounter killing??. Claiming that his son was innocent and could have been ???wrongly framed??, Pillai said the allegation that Javed was a ???terrorist?? was without any basis or any credible investigation. Pillai said he had faxed a representation to Chief Minister A.K. Antony regarding his appeal for a CBI probe in to the `fake?? encounter. Alleging that the encounter killing was a `trap shooting?? done by the Gujarat police with some ???ulterior motives??, Pillai said his son was a law abiding citizen who had never involved in a criminal activity. ???Police are compelling my daughter-in-law to give statement as dictated by them and are propagating false information and allegations through the media,???? he alleged. Pillai was here to participate at a function organised by the Kochi chapter of the Amnesty International and the Confederation of Human Rights Organisations on ???Victims of torture??. ------------------------------------------------------------ The Hindu, June 27, 2004, Sunday 2) Claims of Javed's father found to be false By Our Staff Reporter ALAPPUZHA, JUNE 26. Some of the claims made by M. R. Gopinathan Pillai, father of Javed Ghulam Muhammad Sheikh alias Pranesh Kumar Pillai who was killed in an encounter with the Gujarat Police in Ahmedabad, have been found to be false in the light of new evidence being unearthed by investigating agencies. The agencies have found out that several persons had visited Mr. Pillai's home at Thamarakkulam in the last few years. Mr. Pillai had not mentioned this when he spoke to the media. Though Mr. Pillai had said that the persons who accompanied Javed were relatives of his wife, the investigating agencies have found that it was not correct. The investigating agencies are now zeroing in on a person who stayed at Mr. Pillai's home along with Javed when he visited home in 2003. The agencies are investigating the purpose of the visit of the stranger. It had been found that Javed had actually worked in Abu Dhabi from 1999 to 2001 and not in Dubai as claimed by Mr. Gopinathan Pillai. Moreover, the investigations had revealed that Javed had not been in Government service but was in fact employed by a private agency. Though Mr. Pillai had told the media that his son had few friends in the area and he seldom ventured out to meet persons other than his relatives, it has been now found that the claims were not true. Many local people observed that Javed used to visit a mosque at Parayankulam near Nooranad frequently when he visited the State. Javed also used to travel widely in the State along with his friends from North India whenever he visited his home. His friends in Nooranad had revealed to the police that he had visited some major temples in the State in a hired vehicle during his last visit. Javed had also extended financial help to some persons in his neighbourhood. The investigating agencies had also found out that Javed had drawn large sums of money from ATMs. The investigating agencies believe that the repeated claims made by Mr. Pillai to the media that the encounters were fake were done with the aim of creating confusion among the public.
