Arjun dares RSS, says its philosophy killed Gandhi

New Delhi, Aug. 10 (PTI): Unfazed by its threat to sue him
over his remarks, HRD Minister Arjun Singh, today challenged
the RSS to "do their worst", saying its philosophy of "hatred
and violence" killed Mahatma Gandhi.

"Since the tragic and fateful evening of January 30, 1948,
when the shots fired by Nathuram Godse killed the father
of the nation at a prayer meeting, I am convinced that the
philosophy of hate and violence, which the RSS swears by,
killed Mahatmaji," he said

New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) The war of nerves between the BJP and HRD Minister Arjun Singh today reached a flashpoint with Education Ministers of BJP-ruled states walking out and boycotting the meeting of the Central Advisory Board on Education protesting "politicisation" of education by the UPA Government.
The simmering anger of the main opposition party over Singh's "re-distortion" of history text books, its non-invitation to a conference on minority education and reversal of the fee reduction in IIMs burst out as the HRD Minister referred to "communalisation" and the Common Minimum Programme of UPA in his speech circulated on the occasion.

Today's walkout was reminiscent of a similar act by ministers of non-BJP ruled states over recital of 'Saraswati Vandana' at a function presided over by the then HRD Minister M M Joshi during the NDA regime.

As soon as the two-day meeting commenced with introductory remarks by Education Secretary B S Baswan, Rajasthan Education Minister Ghanshyam Tiwari stood up and demanded that the two references be removed from the speech.

"CABE is being used as a platform for politicisation of education and this will not be tolerated", he said creating a furore and prompting objections from other participants including social activist Teesta Setalvad.

As the uproar settled down and Singh began his address, Tiwari again stood up and shouted, "we are not here to give our seal of approval to the CMP".

Tiwari later walked out of the meeting followed by Anadi Ben Patel of Gujarat, Ajay Chandrakar of Chhattisgarh, P N Singh of Jharkhand and Alka JAin of Madhya Pradesh. PTI
