Affirmative action policy in India The politics of affirmative action policy in India has always been an important political question of Indian society. Now that, the post-independence Indian society??™s reservation policy should be audited .This is not a simple question. The status quo interests of the Indian society are against the implementation of the reservation policy .this is clearly reflecting in Indian businessmen??™s and powerful middle classes reaction towards the reservation policy of India. Indian business and political elites like Rahul bajaj and Arun shourie are raising question against the constitutional privileges for subarltern communities. Their sophisticated argument is protecting a particular type of MANUVADI or BRAHMANIC interests. Middle castes of India have got a visible social mobility in Indian society. After 70??™s They have a powerful presence in Indian mainstream society.Their political and social strength had appeared in the Mandal agitation. Indian politicians are always surviving at the cost of political manipulation. At present ,they are using reservation policy for their narrow political interests .As against the ethos of the affirmative action policy, ,these politicians are trying to give reservation policy for each and every communities.Normally affirmative action policy is using for providing social, economic and political opportunities for subraltern communities like dalitas and adivasis. Those communities are in socially ,economically and politically in a bad shape.Historically, Dalits and adivasis have been living in marginalized social sphere.still,They have hardly any reperesntation in business,meadia,,think-institutes of India.and they have already become the worst victims of the development policy India.Their politics is centerally revloved aroud emotional politics. So,They have to provide special rights for reaching to mainstream society. This important lesson is always forgetting our political and economic elites. The upper caste poor can be provided economic loans and other economic privileges.Affirmative action policy is only for subarltern communities like dalits and adivasis to intervene in the mainstream society as equal citizens of a society.women??™s representation is also a part of this problem. They have to get enough representation in civil and political society of India. Even in kerala society(While comparing with the other Indian states, a relatively better society) ,a powerful pro-upper caste interess is so strong. Dalit ,adivasi and fishermen and women presence can??™t be seen in mainstream kerala civil society. There should be a affirmative action policy for creating a democratic public sphere in india in which every section of the society must have a social ,political and economic representation. In India, downtrodden sections of the Indian society like Dalits ,adivasis etc must have given a level playing field to compete with the mainstream society. ------------------------------------- Posted by ck_vishwanath2000@yahoo.com |
