There is no breakthrough yet in the investigation in the case related to the attack on nuns at the Mambuzhakkad Mithal colony near Pantheerankavu near here on September 25. The prime suspects were still at large. Police sources preferred to keep a studied silence on the progress of the investigation. The police officials were non-committal on whether the suspects were in their custody or not. Interrogation on According to sources, the interrogation of suspected assailants, their relatives, friends and associates at the Nallalam police station was going on in a routine manner. Raids by more than five squads of the police were going on in Kozhikode. Three squads had also gone outside the district in the hope of tracing the suspects. Sources said the arrests were being delayed, as there was an opinion among the police that the arrest of Shiju of Pantheerankavu, one of the suspects, was a hasty decision. Shiju who is remanded to 14 days in judicial custody is under observation in a hospital here. He fell unconscious after he was arrested by the police and produced in court on October 1. The investigations are being carried out under the direct supervision of the Inspector General of Police (North Range), Arvind Ranjan. The Crime Branch team is led by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rajesh Diwan. Church council meet The United Christian Council at a joint meeting of representatives of churches held at the CSI Cathedral here today expressed apprehension and anguish over the attack on nuns and brothers of the Missionaries of Charity. In a resolution adopted at the meeting, the council said that such calculated attacks would destroy the exemplary communal amity prevailing in the State. |
