Location: Video In

Kashmir has been the major issue of conflict between Pakistan and India since the subcontinent became free of the British colonial rule. Within a South Asia torn by internal conflicts, the hostility between Pakistan and India has led to three wars and the possibility of a nuclear exchange. The dispute over Kashmir has devastated the people of that beautiful land, and has distorted the possibilities of economic, social and political development in Pakistan and India. Today, the leaders of the two countries, led by the will of the people, are moving toward dialogue, opening the hope of a peaceful resolution to this destructive conflict. Can we, as diasporic South Asians, think beyond the limits of nationalist animosity toward a future of peace? Dr. Hoodbhoy's documentary offers a starting point for this exploration.

Dr. Haider Nizamani, Professor of Political Science, UBC, will provide a historical context for the discussion.

Mr. Imran Munir, Journalist and doctoral student at SFU, will be a resource person.

The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction,
