Hyderabad, Oct. 19: After putting their ???people??™s agenda??™ before the government, the five Naxal leaders and their security team will return to the forests on Wednesday morning. CPI-Maoist State secretary Akkiraju Haragopal alias Ramakrishna, North Telangana Zone secretary Sudhakar and Andhra-Orissa Border zone secretary Ganesh, CPI-ML Janasakthi leaders Amar and Riaz, accompanied by their 35 special guerrillas will leave Manjira guest house after breakfast on Wednesday.

2) Naxals set terms for next round of talks

5) Parting shot: Naxals submit 650 petitions

Hyderabad, Oct. 19: Apart from their demand for the release of political prisoners and redistribution of land to the poor, the Naxal leaders on Tuesday asked the government to act on a bunch of petitions they got from people during their stay in the city. Ramakrishna, secretary of the CPI-Maoists, said the Naxals had got over 650 petitions from people. ???We want the government to look into them,??? he said. ???They deal with basic issues.??? ANANTAPUR: Even as the Communist Party of India (Maoists) and Janasakti leaders were preparing to leave for the forests after concluding first round of talks with the State Government, Maoists this evening occupied 40 acre land belonging to Uravakonda Telugu Desam MLA P Keshav and his father P Narayanappa.(New Indian Express, October 20, 2004, Wednesday)

7) Mixed reaction from Left

HYDERABAD, OCT. 19. The first round of talks between the Government and naxalites has evoked mixed response from left parties.

The CPI on Tuesday welcomed the exchange of opinion between the Government and naxalites and said this round of talks had helped them understand each other's demands and limitations. The CPI(M), on the other hand, felt that "nothing fruitful had come out of it as of now as the substantial issues leading to violence had not been discussed.'' 9) Orphaned girls seek Naxal leaders??™ help

HYDERABAD: Four teenaged girls, thrown out of an orphanage, are ready to join ??????annalu??™??™ (Naxalites) in the jungles.

The eldest of them, 14-year-old Pavitra, who narrated their plight to mediapersons after being thrown out of Indira Seva Sadan at Santoshnagar in the city more than three months ago, said that they were unable to make both ends meet. What hurt them most was the filthy language allegedly used by one Ramireddy, who runs the orphanage.(New Indian Express, Oct. 20, 2004, Wednesday)

12) Emotional reunion

HYDERABAD, OCT. 19. It was an emotional reunion for Janashakti State secretary, Amar, and his mother, Kura Mallamma, and other family members at the Manjeera Government Guesthouse here on Tuesday.

Mallamma recalled that her son had left home from Vemulawada in Karimnagar district 30 years ago and never saw them again. She did not know his whereabouts. Mallamma turned up at the guesthouse with her two daughters. (The Hindu, October 20, 2004, Wednesday)

The first round of the first-ever direct talks between the Naxalites and the Andhra Pradesh government ended, apparently on an optimistic note with both sides agreeing to push the peace process further after a gap of a month or two even as ceasefire is implemented strictly to ensure that the peaceful atmosphere is not fouled up. 19) YSR rules out probe into land encroachments

VIZIANAGARAM, OCT. 18. The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has said that he will get the allegations of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) and the CPI(M-L) Janashakti, that influential persons had encroached upon Government lands in and around the twin cities verified. The Government allotted lands to entrepreneurs for setting up industries and hence there is no need for an enquiry, he has added.
