From: "Viren" <vlobo_1@hotmail.com> Date: Tue Nov 9, 2004 11:26am Subject: Fw: [aiaifdelhi] SUCI strongly condemns steep rise in domestic fuel prices 5 November, 2004 SUCI strongly condemns steep rise in domestic fuel prices and calls for resistance Shri Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI in a statement issued today strongly condemned the latest steep hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG, third in a row since the Congress-led UPA government assumed power at the Centre six months back. While the government is putting forth the oft-repeated argument of surge in international oil price as the ostensive reason for such domestic tariff escalations in a spate, it is reported that there is in fact a decline in the international price of oil. The government, if it had the willingness, had definite scope for downward revision of domestic fuel tariff through suitable adjustments. But the Congress-led government chose to traverse the opposite path to impose once more, in utter disregard to all proposals to provide cushion effect to the consumers and doing nothing to build up strong international public opinion against such unilateral raising of prices by the oil producing countries, a heavy burden on the common people groaning under the yoke of all out capitalist exploitation and left practically with no purchasing power at all. Shri Mukherjee also criticized the dubious role of the CPI(M), CPI upon whole support rests this government, for feigning opposition to this move while silently giving a go-ahead signal to the government in taking such a drastic measure to severely accentuate the misery of the people. He called upon all sections of the people of the country to launch an organized protracted resistance movement to compel the government rescind the highly anti-people decision.
