[1] From: "Arif N. Khan" <ank2000pk@yahoo.com> Date: Wed Aug 10, 2005 Subject: Dawood's daughter, Miandad's son wedded Dawood's daughter, Miandad's son wedded Junaid married Mahrukh in Dubai on July 23. Dawood Ibrahim did not attend the reception, the newspapers said. Miandad's son Junaid, studying at the Oxford University, met his future wife, also said to be based in London, and the two reportedly got engaged last year. "Walima nvitations were been extended to all those who matter in Pakistan and in particular Karachi. The invitees include the governor and chief minister of Sindh (province), top military officials, government and civil servants besides present and former test cricketers," the newspaper said. Miandad was, however, diplomatic when asked if he had invited Pakistan Cricket Board officials who unceremoniously sacked him last year after Pakistan lost the test and one-day series to India. Miandad, since his dismissal on June 16, had been locked with the PCB over the clearance of his dues. "After my accounts have been cleared, I have nothing against them," he told The News. Pakistani captain Inzamam-ul-Haq confirmed that he had received the invitation for the reception, but would not be attending it as he is proceeding to England. Dawood is wanted by India in connection with the Mumbai blasts. Interpol issued a red corner notice against Dawood. According to press reports, Indian intelligence agencies were keeping a close watch at the venue of the wedding and the reception at a five star hotel to know who are were attending the function, especially from Mumbai. The United States Government has put Dawood Ibrahim on the global terrorist list, linking him to al Qaeda, in 2003. An expensive invitation card sent to the guests and published in a local daily in Dubai said: 'Mr and Mrs Dawood Hassan Shaikh Ibrahim have extended the invitation for the wedding ceremony of their beloved daughter with Junaid Miandad s/o Mr and Mrs Javed Miandad Insha Allah on Saturday, 23rd July 2005.' The card said: 'Marriages are decided in Heaven and will be celebrated on Earth, Oh! Allah guide this couple to the best of happiness, understanding and success (Aameen).' "Dummy bookings have been made at hotels so that people do not know the exact location," a Dubai resident was quoted as saying by the daily. Selected people in the United Arab Emirates, including those from the world of sport and entertainment, have been invited for the wedding. Miandad, while in Dubai, had earlier described Mahrukh as a 'well-educated and well-mannered girl whom we are pleased to accept as our daughter-in-law.' He had said he would organise a lavish reception for the couple on August 4 in Karachi to which all relatives, friends, well-wishers and high-profile figures would be invited. A. N. I am hoping that you just not concentrate your efforts of what the Gujarat government is doing, but be fair and work to ensure that Ramakrishna is also portrayed properly. Venkitesh (Viji) ---------------------------------- [3] http://www.indianexpress.com/full_story.php?content_id=74256 BHOPAL, JULY 11: Three members of a Dalit family were hacked to death by an upper caste family near Bamankheda village, 70 km from Ujjain, late last night. The alleged cause of the attack was a stolen buffalo. Ujjain SP, G Janardan, said a hunt is on for the nine accused. The attack took place when one of the victims, Bhagirath, was on his way to lodge a complaint at the local police station against a Rajput family, said the police. Armed with sharp weapons, Sohan Singh Rajput and eight of his family members had attacked him. On hearing Bhagirath's calls for help, his father Kachru and brother Ramchandra ran to his aid. They were assaulted as well. Two hours later, the police reached the spot to find Bhagirath and his brother dead. Kachru was seriously injured. He died later at a local hospital. Before he died, Kachru gave a statement to the police saying Singh's family had accused him and his sons of trying to steal a buffalo. They had been harrassing them since then, he said. They had also abused Kachru and threatened to teach him a lesson. On Sunday night, Singh's family members had pelted stones at Kachru's house, following which his sons had decided to file a police complaint. The police is also examining the possibility of old enmity. The two families had reportedly clashed earlier as well. The district administration has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to Kachru's family. |
