Bigots, despots and fanatics are found in almost all the countries and religious communities, who misconstrue the basic tenets of the religion to suit their selfish ends. But despite the attempts to demonize Islam over the ages, it has spread because of its universal appeal and today it has over 1.50 billion followers all over the world. Islam teaches brotherhood and equality of man; and regards religious duties consisting of doing justice, loving mercy, and endeavoring to make our fellow-creatures happy. But the militant groups like Alquiada have destroyed the image of Islam as a religion of peace. The terrorists attacks in Islamic countries like Iraq, Pakistan etc. that are made to look like sectarian violence are regarded as the work of enemies of Islam who are aftraid of Islamic unity and their capacity for nuclear bomb. Prohibition of prostituition, alocoholics, porn, nudity, gay and MTV culture, profiteering, usury, disnonesty, cruelty, exploitation etc. is imposed in many cultures and religions. Deviation from those standards have resulted in highest ever crime rates and moral degradation. Today there are over 30% illegitmate births in US and over 50 to ^0 % in many other Western and African countries besides wiedspread abortions and increasing number of rapes and other crimes. In US a woman is raped in every 30 minutes. Islam prohibits usury but bigots treat modern day bank interest as usury which is also prohibited in Bible. The notion of equality of man and woman is a fallacy. Muslim men give greater respect and courtesy to women than they do to men. "Heaven is at the feet of mothers", is a basic Islamic teaching. Islam has protected the rights of women. Modesty in dress is applicable to both men and women. Sensuous dressing is prohibited and the concept of viel for woman has been miscontrued by many orthodx sect as hiding the whole body in Burq when going out. What Islam recognized 1500 years ago is being discovered by the modern sociologists. Values of moderate Muslims and good samaritans as well as Hindus and Bhuddists have many similarities. And most of the secular laws are based on those lines. This is the age of multi-culturism and Islam is not opposed to multi-culturism. In fact forcible conversion to Islam is prohibited and great emphasis is laid on justice without any discrimination whatsoever. That is why Islam is the fastest growing religion in the West.
