[1] BHOPAL, M.P. North India: Two tribal women from Khargon were raped for becoming Christians. Indira Iyengar, a member of the Madhya Pradesh State Minority Commission, said, "They (Bajrang Dal activists) have raped these women as punishment for changing their religion. This makes no sense. This is an encroachment on one's fundamental right. It is also a punishable act. But nobody here listens to us, neither the police nor the collector. They all are least bothered. The Christians are especially the victims, police take them away, beat them, file an FIR against them and put them behind bars. We want the Chief Minister to know all this is happening here. We want this inequality to be stopped. We just want our safety." The tribals, who have changed their religion to Christianity, complained that they are not being given proper and due justice. The police and administration also turn a deaf ear to them, they say. According to Rekha Bai, one of the victims, "Police says that our complaint is fake. They don't listen to us. We have nowhere to go". Meanwhile, the Bajrang Dal, an anti-Christian militant group, created a ruckus over the issue at the venue of the press conference. They said, "Christian community is changing everyone's religion here. We will not tolerate this with our religion." The Bajrang Dal has even warned the Minority Commission to stop defaming their organisation over this episode. 6 June 2006, The New Indian Express ---------------------------------- [2] From: kalyan panda <kalyan_panda@yahoo.co.in> Date: Wed Jun 7, 2006 Subject: Re: Indian media caught in a caste warp Do you people want to say that about 60 years of reservation could not give any result. People failed miserably to compete? Meaning this procedure is unproductive? What this imply? Not even 0.2% is coming up. Those who are, they know they do not have any competition. Producing a creamy layer and "untouchables amongst untouchables". Do you all really want the upliftment of the down trodden? Do you have love n respect entwined? panda KALYAN PANDA MUMBAI INDIA 91 9323782617 www.skdubeyfoundation.org ----------------------- [3] From: Gope Lalwani <gopelalwani@yahoo.co.in> Date: Wed Jun 7, 2006 Subject: Social Stability and Misuse of Laws Ages of experience have taught us that the commitment of a husband and wife to love and to serve one another promotes the welfare of children and the stability of society. In face of draconian family laws, if Men and Women are allowed to remain separate and unused under section 498A Indian Penal Code, it can be regarded as a crime against humanity! If the Government desires respect for the law, they must first make the 498A law fool-proof, immune from misuse and make it respectable and humane, more particularly for elderly and sick parents and children. Community, Religious and Elders counselling with simpler divorce laws will greatly help keep healthy society and traditional joint family system. Why UN-willing humans should be compelled to live together? Is it not the violation of Human Rights? Two unwilling Animals even cannot sit together without violence!!! Let not one criminal who misuses the law be the judge and jury and many innocents including women, children, sick and old become victims and sufferers without committing the offence under this Draconian law. Preventing the abuse and misuse of law, is just as much the work of Government, as it is their work to uphold the constitution and laws of the land. ----------------- [4] From: Jagannath Chatterjee <jagchat01@yahoo.com> Date: Tue Jun 6, 2006 Subject: The NY Times focuses on the GM controversy.
