Gladys Staines back to fulfil husband's dream

Setting up hospital with modern facilities being considered

Baripada: Gladys Staines, wife of the slain Australian missionary Graham
Stuart Staines, has returned to Orissa to look after the management of
the Leprosy Home here.

Mayurbhanj Leprosy Home (MLH) chairman Subhankar Ghosh told reporters
that Ms. Staines would attend a general body meeting of the MLH
Association here on June 19.

Large hospital

It would discuss implementation of Graham Staines' dream project -- a
big hospital where facilities for reconstructive surgery to cure
deformities and physiotherapy treatment would be available.

The hospital, when commissioned, would alleviate the miseries of the
leprosy-afflicted in Mayurbhanj and other sick persons from neighbouring
Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Earlier, on arrival on Thursday, she met the staff of the Graham Staines
Memorial Hospital, located in the Mission House compound, and discussed
its functioning.

The hospital, constructed by the MLH Association, was opened in 2004.

Graham Staines, who came here in 1965, and his sons Philip and Timothy
were killed by a mob on January 22, 1999 at Manoharpur in Orissa's
Keonjhar district.

Ms. Staines has been staying at Townsville in Australia, where her
daughter Esther goes to a medical college.

She will be in her Mission compound residence here till the month-end,
according to sources.

NEW DELHI: Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) signed yesterday a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) to promote trade, investment, scientific and technical cooperation between India and Kuwait.
The MOU was signed by KCCI First Vice-chairman Hilal Meshari Al-Mutairi and Chairman of Assocham Dr L K Malhotra.
The MOU stipulates that the two chambers would cooperate with each other in the endeavour to establish and develop direct and effective business relations between their respective members.
"The two parties shall exchange information on general economic status, taxation, investment opportunities, and trade policies in order to strengthen mutual trade, technological and industrial relations," the MOU said.
"The two parties shall regularly exchange their publications and materials concerning economic development, foreign trade, and investment policies," according to the MOU.
The two chambers would also assist each other in organising business delegations, and facilitating their business contacts.
"Wherever possible and appropriate, to exchange information and assist each other in the organisation of or participation in international fairs, exhibitions and trade promotion events to be held in their respective countries and assist their members in participating in such events," the MOU said.
The MOU "comes into force Friday and shall remain valid until each side gives in advance a three month notice for its termination."
Indian trade and industry chambers yesterday held a luncheon to honour HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the escorting delegation.
Addressing the luncheon's attendees, HH the Amir expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the hospitality he and the accompanying delegation received in India, "this great country which we share together historical ties."
"The relationship that we enjoyed over the years was built in so many aspects, but you, the business community, played a vital role in strengthening this relationship.
"The Kuwaiti-Indian relations have deepened further despite the distance, the harsh circumstances, the difficulties in transportation and communication and language barriers. This relationship which became an ideal for the harmony among civilisations and not the clash of civilisations.
"Your meeting today represents a continuation of this historical relationship that has been built by our fathers and grandfathers. Your role today is to develop this relationship given the positive world environment with the globalisation era and the economic reform policies in our countries," he said.
The economic relationship "We envisage is the economic relationships that provides job opportunities to our people and provide a high standard of living for our people. This relationship should be based on mutual trust and reciprocal relations and have a long-term vision," he added.
In conclusion, HH the Amir wished the businessmen all success in their deliberations, hoping that the outcome of this meeting will represent another step "to our excellent and distinct relationship".
KCCI First Vice-chairman Hilal Meshari Al-Mutairi noted, in his speech, the great leaps in bilateral economic ties between Kuwait and India.
Regarding the cornerstones of economic cooperation, he outlined Kuwait's overall economic reform plan that aims to achieve development in all fields, political collaboration, implementing peace, proper utilisation of oil, as well as India's technological advancement, attractions and emerging market.
He said members of Kuwait's private sector have the chance to review and examine all available economic opportunities to decide what they see fit in terms of joint investments, hoping this visit would be the beginning of a new era to boost all aspects of mutual cooperation.
Al-Mutairi said HH the Amir brought along a group of ministers, officials and businessmen to India to embody his desire to ensure establishing a true strategic partnership between Kuwait and India.
Indian Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said "This is the first Amiri visit to India since 1983 and all of us in India are confident that relations will be greatly strengthened by this visit. His Highness is one of the elder, longest serving and experienced leaders in the Gulf and the Arab World."
"We admire the rapid growth of Kuwait as an open, highly competitive and efficient economy. We have no doubt that under your visionary leadership, Kuwait will become even more prosperous," he said.
"India has emerged as one of the fastest growing economies in the world today. What you see today is a confident India engaging with the global economy. India wishes to enhance its trade and investment relations with Kuwait. Given the complementarities between our two economies trade relations will deepen further. I am sure that the visit of HH the Amir will open a new and dynamic era of economic cooperation, " Ravi said.
He said, "The large and growing Indian community in Kuwait has always been given a warm welcome in Kuwait. We are proud of the contribution of Indians to Kuwait's economic development. The overseas Indian workers in the Gulf constitute an important link between our two countries" adding, "I believe that our economic and cultural ties will grow from strength to strength following this historic visit," he added. - Kuna

Subject: Plain talk on vaccines: Do we really need them?

     Vaccination Information

Most micro-organisms that cause serious illnesses live within healthy people
without causing any symptoms at all.
No vaccine containing “pure” micro-organisms elicits an immune response. Only
when a toxin is added to the vaccine does the body respond to it.
The presence of antibodies is not an indication of immunity. They are only a
small part of the blood immune response.
Government statistics show that death rates of ALL infectious diseases had
drastically fallen BEFORE the introduction of the specific vaccinations. (The
only exception is smallpox, which showed a 275% increase after vaccination was
introduced. The program was consequently terminated and smallpox vaccination
disappeared.)
An unvaccinated child is not an unprotected child - it still has its natural
immunity.
The Lancet (12 January 1980) reported that the BCG vaccine, against
tuberculosis, showed no evidence of protection but rather an increase in
tuberculosis cases. This has been the only double-blind vaccine test ever to
have been published.
Micro-organisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites) do not cause diseases,
they aid in the cleaning up process of healing, the road back to health.
Natural immunity is not disease-specific; one does not need to have come in
touch with all diseases in order to gain immunity against them.
All so-called “infectious” diseases are the result of a toxic condition
within the organ or the whole body. The symptoms relate to the elimination
effort the system is making to clear out the toxins.
Susceptibility to disease depends solely on the state of health of the body,
not on the exposure to micro-organisms.
   HOWEVER,

if you believe that your vaccination gives you full protection against
infectious diseases, then it should not matter to you whether somebody else has
been vaccinated or not!
