Hey Hey !
And welcome to Daegu !
Dont forget to stay for a while !
And on the topic of staying in Daegu, I have a little addendum to make. I must admit that my little accomodation note was probably a little too little. So I said " hmmmmm there isnt a lot here, I have to do something about it. " So I had a little look and have found a few more little options for everyone
Dong-Daegu Station seems to be a local mecca for travel options so lets start there.
Lol there is only one side of Dong-Daegu station that you can actually leave out of, so lets talk about that area. You come out the Eastern side when you leave the station so you then need to turn left and look in a northerly direction. What you will see here is a little cluster of shops, churches, office buildings and bus stops which we will indeed get to in a minute.
In this area you will find three hotels/motel type establishments. The main theme of these places is budget travel. You would be looking at forking out a fairly minimal sum of between 20000 W - 25000 W per night. These places are named Chongho-jang, Buel Jang, and the Crown Tourist Hotel. The first 2 mentioned are very much budget type, and are really designed for the typical short stayers. Rooms are comfortable and nice, yet obviously nothing classy. Mind you your basics are good. You have a fridge, TV ( with cable ), Phone, bed, and shower and toilet facilities. Like I said you rbasics are indeed quite comfy.
The crown is a little better. Little more pricy, but still very affordable and accessible indeed. Features I do believe are quite similar.
Now the next lot of hotels I am not so sure about. So I will tell you what I can about that them. In the downtown area near jungangno you have such hotels as Silla-jang Yeogwan, located right in the entertainment district; Maeil-jang which is just a little further back then Silla, and another nearby hotel, the Serin-jang Yeogwan, which has reasonably priced rooms going for 25000 w per night.
Ahh many more options now !!!!!
At least now you all have a little more choice lol !
Ok Now to talk about transport options here in Daegu.
Getting into Daegu really and truly is not so hard. You can easily access Daegu by plane, train and bus.
If you are coming in from Seoul or Jeju-do, you can come in by Korean Air or Asiana, which tend to offer regular flights into Daegu Airport. You can also access Daegu Airport if you are coming in from Osaka I hear on a daily basis.
Daegu City has 4 bus terminals !
Lets have a look at them.
You have the express bus terminal where you will find buses going to Busan, Cheongju, Daejeon, Dong Seoul, Gwangju, Jinju, and Seoul.
Dong-bu inner terminal will help you get to Pohang, Sokcho in the north east, and GyeongJu.
Seobu terminal will help you get to Haeinsa, and Tongyeoung.
Bukbu terminal will help you get to Andong, Chuncheon, Gimcheon, and Guinsa.
Daegu is also serviced by the major train networks in Korea. The main ones are indeed the Saemaeul ( meaning now community ) and Mugunghwa ( meaning unification ) line. They run regularly on cross country runs and generally take a sizeable time to do so. Hence now we have KTX. The KTX is the Korean version of the Bullet Train and has really cut travel time cross country in korea dramatically. It really is quite exhilirating to go from Seoul to Busan at 300 km/h in 2 hours !!!!!
The KTX is quite comfortable indeed, and is quite comaparable in standard to the Japanese shinkansen. It certainly is an enjoyable ride through the Korean Countryside on the KTX.
Well I hope you have enjoyed todays musing.
I look forward to helping you even further in the near future !
cheers !
James !
