hey hey there and welcome to daegu ! I hope you are gonna come here soon ! You
should have been here last weekend for the DongSeongNo festival. It was really
cool indeed. The festival was in the DongSeongno area of downtown jungangno. It
was basically a street festival with lots of stalls and stuff like that. In the
areas surrounding the mall, there were taekwondo displays, modelling contests,
song contests.....and dang those belly dancers were good ! Admittedly it was
not as lively as the Gion Matsuri in Kyoto in Japan but hey it was a totally
different festival on a smaller scale too. The people of Jungangno and
surrounds really got behind it and really enjoyed it. And I did to. It was just
so great to see so many young people there just chillin, smoking, drinking and
having a kickass time. Oh yeh here is a site to help you on your way in Korea
...come check it out ! www.iluvkorea.com seeya soon ! James !
hey hey ! And welcome to Daegu ! Hope you are indeed enjoying it here ! The
people here are generally very friendly, so there is really no reason not to be
enjoying life ! Generally the people are really quite friendly. They are not
afriad to say hello, wish to be friends, or indeed help you out in a sticky
situation. Lol yesterday at the train station in jungangno was one experience
of this for me. I was trying to put my bag into an electronic locker and had to
give my thumb print to ID. but yep of course it didnt want to print my thumb !
Perhaps the machine senses there were 5 other " Daeguns " there trying to help
me do it so it gave in lol ! Yep you got it.....5 people ! we got there in the
end. Daegu people generally do work hard, and they like to play a little too.
And not to be sexist but the women here........OOH ! !!!! Its like you are at a
model show some of the time ! heheheheheheheheheh. Any way, there are also a
fair smattering of foreigners around here too. There are 3 big US bases here
and I really must say that the lads are quite well behaved, unlike their Seoul
counterparts. There is also a lot of people from other asian countries here
hey hey team ! Anw once again welcome to Daegu ! Say hello when you get here !
Yeh not too much to report tonight.. but hey I did manage to scout around a
little on the net and do some more searching for info on some of the daegu
temples and that. Colourful Daegu is a really cool site to look up. Its pretty
much a site run by the council and local government and is really very very
informative. One part you will no doubt be keen on is looking at thepart to do
with the local temples in the area. You will see a lot of good information
about the various shrines and temples in the area. you Can see it here http://
english.daegu.go.kr/Tourism/Tour/view.asp?table=dg_Tour&item_no=272&tour_cat_id
=1 Another great part on the site is this page http://global-tour.daegu.go.kr/
eng/eng_index.asp It really does show off how beautiful daegu is.... I hope I
can do it some day ! cheers ! James
Hey Hey ! And welcome to Daegu ! Dont forget to stay for a while ! And on the
topic of staying in Daegu, I have a little addendum to make. I must admit that
my little accomodation note was probably a little too little. So I said "
hmmmmm there isnt a lot here, I have to do something about it. " So I had a
little look and have found a few more little options for everyone Dong-Daegu
Station seems to be a local mecca for travel options so lets start there. Lol
there is only one side of Dong-Daegu station that you can actually leave out
of, so lets talk about that area. You come out the Eastern side when you leave
the station so you then need to turn left and look in a northerly direction.
What you will see here is a little cluster of shops, churches, office buildings
and bus stops which we will indeed get to in a minute. In this area you will
find three hotels/motel type establishments. The main theme of these places is
budget travel. You would be looking at forking out a fairly minimal sum of
between 20000 W - 25000 W per night. These places are named Chongho-jang, Buel
Jang, and the Crown Tourist Hotel. The first 2 mentioned are very much budget
hey hey there team ! and Anyang Haseyo from Daegu ! You know where you can put
up yout hat and leave your coat, now just dont forget to leave a small or
donation or indeed by a little souvenir..... tis what keeps us going lol ! Tis
honestly the case with many temples and shrines. Its the only way they earn any
revenue. So it indeed helps if the temple is famous and well known. Like quite
a few in Daegu and the surrounding areas. Daegu is known as the home of
buddhism in Korea. The two biggest temples are the Dongwha and Pagye temples.
Pagye is an incredibly gorgeous place indeed. Its architecture is very much
based on the chinese temple styles, Yet it still has the feel of many authentic
Korean temples, namely those in Seoul. You can dong the bell, buy a souvenir or
indeed relax in quiet serenity. You can see more here http://public.fotki.com/
janekeeler/299957545/in/set-72157594231185649/ Yep there is even a buddha there
! Dongwha-sa is also a picture of fairly distinctive Korean Architecture. It
also has a very interesting history. You can see more here http://
hey hey there ! and once again welcome to Daegu ! when you take your coat off,
dont forget to drop your hat down too ! After all ....where you lay your hat is
your home right ! Well that may not always be true but hey sometimes temporary
is better then nothing. And thats where the accomodation in Daegu comes in.
Daegu appears to have a fairly broad smattering of variety for your
accomodation dollar ( or indeed won in Korea lol ). As with any big city, there
are the big boys and Daegu is indeed no exception. The big boys here are the
Grand, The Hotel InterBurgo, The Prince Hotel and the Crystal Hotel. Now I
would love to lie and say I have been to them all ..... but hey .....some of us
need to tell the truth lol ! but what I cant tell you, http://hotelclub.com/
Hey hey team ! And Welcome to Daegu ! Why dont you come on by, take your coat
off and put your feet up ! After all you have plenty of room in the sports
stadiums here to do such things. Daegu is home to some of the most well known
sporting teams in Korea, the most namely being the Samsung Lions Baseball team.
I have only seen them a little bit but I gotta tell ya, they sure know how to
win championships. Like they did last year. Mind you, their current form this
season is a little scratchy, and at 4-4-1(tie), it might be time to get out
last years bats and start swinging ! You can find out more about the lions at
http://www.samsunglions.com/english/index/index.asp Or you might fancy some
Soccer, and Daegu FC will help you out with all that. Mind you, on current
form, they may not be able to help with much else lol ! Maybe Beckham should
have gone to them instead of LA ! check out http://www.daegufc.co.kr/ for more.
And of course for all Hoops Fans, there is the Daegu Orions....Who are in the
playoffs right now. Dont doubt it team, the KBL is quite strong, fast and
athletic indeed and these lads know how to play ball ! http://www.orions.co.kr/
hey hey There ! And welcome to Daegu ! We do hope to see you here one day ! We
are all welcoming ! Well Whenever we travel we sure do like to go out and shop
dont we ?? After all, we like to buy souvenirs, go shopping, sample a local
delicacy and other little bits and pieces like that. Well friends you can do
all of this in the DongSeongro area in Jung-gu, Downtown in Daegu. You can
access this area pretty directly from Jungangno train station. Its just a
little walk from exit 3 ( I think !! ) So you come out from the Train Station
and what next ?? Well chances are you will see a throng of people coming toward
you from DongSeongro area. You will see the main street and no doubt be
attracted to it, if not from desire to shop then by sheer curiosity over
anything else. Well... curiousity has lead you to the right place. As you turn
right onto DongSeongro, you may be greeted by a performance on the stage set up
just by the Department Store on the corner, or indeed by the first of many
street stalls that you will indeed see in the area. Walking through what could
be a potential throng of mainly youth, You will come across the first of a few
hey hey team Welcome to Daegu ! In this Ezine we hope to give you all sorts of
info on the great town in the South East of Korea called Daegu. Commonly
referred to as TAEGU, its actually the fourth biggest town in Korea. The
fashion industry is really big down here and this town is gonna get even more
spotlight when the 2011 IAAF championships come to town. The main area for fun
and frivolity is just outside Daegu train station and is in the area of
jung-gu. Here is the mecca of Daegu, the soul, the vibe and the downtown. Dont
be surprised if you see models walking on the street....well hey they may not
be professional but they might as well be ! Be prepared to see the young and
hip out and about in the streets in jung-gu. Starbucks is well represented,
Lots of department stores for you to peruse and a even a Bodyshop and FaceShop
franchise to pamper your face, body and soul with lol. The foreign presence in
Daegu is evident yet not so prevalent. There are plenty of buzzcuts around the
main drags on the weekend so be prepped to see lots of soldiers from time to
time. Getting out of the main drag may indeed lead you to the Daegu World Cup
