Tree trimming with an Ohio wine
Every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, I put all the holiday lights on the outside of my home and erect my Christmas tree. It has become a tradition the past few years that I invite Gary to my house to help me. After all the lights were placed outside, we put the lights on the tree and celebrated with some local wine. Our pick for this year: Niagara from Ohio's Woodstone Creek Winery.
Pictured: Enjoying some Niagara after all the lights are finally positioned on my Christmas tree.

Where we're headed: Plans for 2007 now underway!
Gary and I have traveled on our last winery adventure for 2006 and we are busy planning our itinerary for 2007. Our plan is to take four months off during the holidays and snowy weather...but I'm sure we will get cabin fever. We will probably plan a last minute trip or two during this time. If we do venture off during the winter months - we'll be sure to give you all the details in upcoming newsletters.

Casa Larga Vineyards Debuts the
2005 Fiori Delle Stelle Cab-Franc Ice Wine

On Wednesday, November 1st, Casa Larga debuted the 2005 vintage of its Fiori Delle Stelle Cabernet Franc Ice Wine.  Only the second time in production, the Ice Wine was received with high praise at a private event hosted at the winery.  The ruby red wine is only being offered at the Casa Larga Wine Shop, and is available in limited supply for the retail price of $74.99.

The release of the 2005 Fiori Cabernet Franc Ice Wine has been highly anticipated.  This is only the second time Casa Larga has produced this Ice Wine, with the first production, in 2004, yielding only a handful of cases. The 2005 vintage is available in limited supply, with less than 50 cases produced.

The Cabernet Franc Ice Wine is a part of the Fiori Delle Stelle line of ultra-premium wines, each of which is created from only the highest quality grapes.  Fiori Delle Stelle is Italian for Flower of the Stars, reflecting the process by which the Casa Larga Ice Wines are created.  The grapes are picked by hand, often at nighttime, and pressed while still frozen, leaving only the sweet, concentrated juices to be extracted during the pressing process.  The Cabernet Franc Ice Wine is one of two Ice Wines Casa Larga produces.  The Fiori Delle Stelle Vidal Ice Wine was awarded the 2005 Governor's Cup for "Best Wine in New York State".  As with all Fiori products, the Cabernet Franc Ice Wine is produced using a strict adherence to traditional methods, specifically the old-world German Eiswein making technique.

Fiori Cabernet Franc is a brilliant ruby red hue, with extraordinary aromas of fresh picked strawberries.  The wine has a lingering finish with moderate sweetness and a nice balance.  This Ice Wine is paired best with red berry desserts such as Strawberry Shortcake, and also pairs well with dark or bittersweet chocolate.  Other suggested food pairings include spicy chutneys and artisan cheeses such as Roquefort or Gorgonzola.

Bottled in a sleek 375 ml bottle with gold accents, this wine makes the perfect holiday gift.  For more information on the Fiori Cabernet Franc Ice Wine, or other great holiday items, contact the Wine Shop at (585) 223-4210, or visit www.CasaLarga.com

Correction from last month's feature article: Our Favorite Websites
In an article that I wrote last most featuring the websites that we use as resources when planning our winery adventures, I mentioned that the website www.indianawines.org featured information about most of the wineries in Indiana. This website is managed by the Indiana Wine Grape Council, and they emailed me to let me know that they provide information about ALL 34 wineries in Indiana, not "most of the wineries" as I stated in the article. They have also recently re-launched their website and they are offering an interactive map.
