Our recent
visit to The Winery at Versailles
We
took a short weekend trip in November to visit a nearby winery that we
hadn't had a chance to experience yet...The Winery at Versailles. We were
extremely pleased with our visit. Gary and I spent the entire afternoon
there over a tasting and a couple of glasses of wine. Their beautiful
3-level tasting room was the perfect place to spend a chilly afternoon
sampling their vast selection of wines. We've already written the
review, so visit the Southwest
Ohio Wineries page for all the details. Pictured:

A Unique
Retreat in Greenville, Ohio
Wayman's
Corner Bed and Breakfast
While on our latest wine trip to southwestern Ohio, we booked our accommodations at
Wayman's Corner Bed & Breakfast.
This beautifully restored home is a treasure in the heart of Greenville,
Ohio. We truly felt at home during our stay and our hostess, Vicky Root,
was so hospitable and accommodating. We stayed in the upstairs porch room
and enjoyed a wonderful night's sleep. Located a very short distance from
Versailles, Ohio...it's the perfect place to stay after a day of wine
tasting at the Winery at Versailles. Check out their website
for more photos and information about the accommodations they offer. Pictured:

Where
we're headed:
Planning, planning,
planning: We will be taking a three-month hiatus during the winter
months and hitting the road again March 2008. Over the next couple of
months we will begin planning our 2008 adventures. We'll keep you posted
and let you know as soon as we have decided on our first destination of
the new year.

Kinkead Ridge
Wine Internationally Recognized
A Kinkead
Ridge Estate wine (grown in Ripley, Ohio), the 2004 Cabernet Franc,
has been honored in the 2008 Wine Report Paperback as
one of the Top 100 Exciting Wine Finds, an international list
compiled by Tom Stevenson, British editor of the New Sothebys
Wine Encyclopedia. In 2006, the winery won a similar
accolade for their 2003 Viognier/Roussanne. "Succulent,
intensely flavored fruit, ripe, supple tannins, and a truckload of
flavors - from cherries, cassis, chocolate, and cream, to vanilla
and coconut... This shows what promise there is in Ohio."
In the report, this wine is also #7 on the Top Ten List of Greatest
Quality Wines from the Atlantic Northeast.
Only
11 other American wines made the list, including wines from Texas,
Washington, Missouri, Michigan, Indiana and California.
2005
Moscato Bianco, Flat Creek Estate, Texas Hill Country;
2004 Cuvee Elena Grenache/Mourvedre/Syrah, Syncline, Washington
State;
2005 Late Harvest Vignoles, Stone Hill Winery, Missouri;
2005 Marigold Vineyard Gewurtztraminer, Peninsula Cellars, Michigan
2004 Camerata Red Wine, Cadence, Washington;

The
winery will open to the public three more times in 2007 for holiday
shopping December 1, 8 and 15. The winery's fifth anniversary is
December 8, the same weekend as Ripley's River Village Christmas
celebration.
