Our Visit to North East and Ripley
In late October, we visited a few wineries in North
East, Pennsylvania and Ripley, New York. It was
a beautiful area along the shores of Lake Erie and it
was the perfect time to visit the region for fall foliage.
We visited four wineries in Pennsylvania and two in New
York...and they were all in very close proximity. We had
a great time on this winery adventure. It was the perfect
ending to our 2005 wine travels.
Pictured below: Sharon enjoying the beautiful scenery outside Mazza Vineyards.

Where we're headed:
We have gone on our last winery adventure for 2005. During the holidays
and winter months, we will be busy planning our 2006 adventures. Gary
and I will be traveling again in March. We'll post information on the website
as soon as we've decided on our first destination of the new year!

The Gift of Wine

Christmas is just around the corner and it's time to finish our holiday shopping. Friends and family
have come to expect the gift of wine from me. I know the wine-lovers at my workplace hope they'll
get my gift at our annual company gift exchange in hopes of a tempting new wine to try.

What wine should you buy when you will be presenting it as a gift? Purchasing wine for a close friend
is relatively easy, because you are probably familiar with the types of wine your friends usually
enjoy. Giving wine to others can be a bit trickier. My general rule of thumb: When you want to
give someone a bottle of wine, but you're not sure what kind they like...stick with sweeter wines.

If you're thinking of giving someone the gift of wine this holiday season, I would like to offer a few
suggestions. Whether you're buying for a relative, friend, neighbor, gift exchange, or purchasing
a bottle as a hostess gift...the following wines are quite unique and are sure to please anyone on
your gift list.

Red Raspberry, Lone Oak Estate, Michigan
Give this wine with chocolate, which makes a wonderful accompaniment to this
luscious raspberry dessert wine.

Sirius Pear Dessert Wine, Black Star Farms Winery, Michigan
This decadent dessert wine will certainly please even the most discriminating wine-lovers
on your gift-giving list.

Sex, L. Mawby, Michigan
This fun sparkling wine makes a unique gift...even if just for the name.

Late Harvest Vidal Blanc, Ferrante Winery, Ohio
We sampled this wonderful wine while attending Vintage Ohio. Be sure to
tell the recipient they'll want to save it for a special occasion.

Dandelion, Breitenbach Winery, Ohio
I'm sure most people have heard of Dandelion wine, but have never tried it.
A friend or relative would be delighted to receive this sweet wine at holiday time.

Ice Wine, Valley Vineyards, Ohio
Anyone on your gift list would be thrilled with a bottle of this delicacy for the holidays.
When Gary and I get together to exchange Christmas gifts...we've made it a tradition
to share a bottle of Valley Vineyards Ice Wine during the festivities.

Razzberry Riesling, Chalet Debonne, Ohio
A light, fruity wine with a unique flavor that anyone would enjoy.

Chocolate, Ferrin's Fruit Winery, Indiana
This interesting wine, which tastes like a melted hot
fudge sundae, makes a great gift for the person who has everything.

Almonderia, Heritage Wine Cellars, Pennsylvania
This sweet wine is one of the most unique wine's you'll ever taste.
Perfect for gift-giving.

Chantilly Lace, Winery at Raven's Glenn, Ohio
We bought a bottle of this wonderfully pleasing dessert wine and saved
it to open last New Year's Eve. It is so soft and sweet..and makes the perfect gift.

Cherry Ginseng, Chateau Grand Traverse, Michigan
The Wisconsin ginseng root in this splendid wine gives it a  very unique flavor.

Peach Blossom, Sandhill Crane Vineyards, Michigan
The peach lovers on your gift list will find this light and fruity
Michigan wine delightful.

Iced Delaware, Easley Winery, Indiana
A delicious dessert wine made from the Delaware grape.

Michigan Cherry, Cherry Creek Cellars, Michigan
This is one of the best cherry wines we've come across. Anyone on your gift list would be happy to receive a bottle
of this wonderful wine.

The 2006 Wines and Vines Chili Cook-Off - The Wineries on the Wines & Vines Trail in Northeast Ohio. Some of the
state's most charming family wineries are working together to create an event to help take the chill off a frosty winter weekend.

Eleven regional wineries in the northeast corner of the state are sponsoring a chili cook off. They include Laurello Vineyards
and Old Mill Winery in Geneva, Debonne Vineyards, Maple Ridge Winery and Grand River Cellars in Madison, Old
Firehouse Winery and Lakehouse Winery in Geneva on the Lake, Tarsitano Winery, Biscotti Winery and Buccia Vineyards
in Conneaut, and LaLeure Vineyards in Parkman.

Visit each of the eleven wineries listed above. Sample their 'favorite chili' and have your ballot validated. At each location, you
will enjoy a small portion the family's favorite chili, complemented by an appropriate wine. You will also receive a 'Frosty the
Snowman' ceramic gift item. While the wineries are generally closely clustered, you may want to plan on a two-day excursion
to visit all eleven. At the end of your journey you will have collected four chili mugs, four small snack plates and three
charming candles so that you can replicate your favorite recipes again and again.

Then return the ballot to Chili Cook-Off, PO Box 157, Austinburg, 44010. EACH couple [or single] that returns a ballot will
receive all of the chili recipes and will have their name placed into a drawing for an overnight at the fabulous Lodge and
Conference Center at Geneva on the Lake.

You may visit the wineries between 1 and 6 p.m. each day of the event.Cost is $25 per person or $35 per couple. A limited
number of tickets will be sold so do not miss out. All ticket sales are final. To order tickets call 800-227-6972 or visit
