![]() Thanksgiving is over, and we're still stuffed. We haven't eaten in almost a week we're that full. Speaking of gluttonous, this newsletter is a veritable feast of book-lovin' goodness.
We adored Kate Atkinson's Case Histories, but figured we were just being greedy hoping that her follow-up, One Good Turn, would be just as enjoyable turns out this second helping is as delicious as the first, and we're thrilled to have an interview with the author. Scrumptious side dishes include signed first editions of Erik Larson's Thunderstruck, plus
new arrivals from Thomas Pynchon, Carl Hiaasen, and John Hodgman, an INK Q&A with Rage Therapy author Daniel Kalla, and so much more it's making our stomachs ache... with joy! Hurry up and order holiday gifts online now to take advantage of the cheapest guaranteed shipping options.

NEW ARRIVALS
And now it's time to dip into the Brockman Reader Mailbag.
Dear Brockman, Quit giving orders, you aren't Dave Weich! Okay, fine, you want suggestions? Sign up for the Review-a-Day email and get reviews of books you might never have heard of delivered right to your inbox. Through Review-a-Day, I discovered Rust and Bone: Stories by Craig Davidson, which I'd never heard of and started reading right away.Dear Brockman, Do you ever wake up in the morning and wonder what you've done with your life? I look at myself in the mirror and remember who I wanted to become, which isn't even close to who I've turned out to be. Does this happen to you, or am I alone? Kimberly in Seattle, WA No, I don't. No, it doesn't. Yes, you are dreadfully, utterly, eternally alone.Dear Brockman, My girlfriend of three years recently broke up with me. Last night we went out for drinks to catch up and everything felt right. We even ended up in bed together. But today she won't return my calls or emails or text messages! What should I do? Thomas in Castle Rock, ME First, file a restraining order against yourself. You need to back away and give this woman some space. She's just used you for a night of cheap thrills and now she's regretting her impulsive (possibly alcohol-fueled) act. Give her time to come around and realize that she actually doesn't want to see you ever again. Got something to say to me? Send any questions, suggestions, and requests for advice to the lovelorn to brockman@powells.com.

Fup didn't eat on Thanksgiving.
"She's just being contrary," Trudeau told several cats downtown. Not in front of her, however, so Fup had no opportunity to explain. The whole thing became a much bigger deal than it needed to be, and all because of a mincemeat pie. Fup had floated the idea of fasting as early as Monday. "Let's give thanks by going without," she proposed. "No food, no toys, no TV. We'll just hang out and think about all the stuff we'd rather be eating and doing, but can't, for once." Bagheera and Bear agreed. Oreo bought in at first, too, until come lunchtime on Thursday he got hungry. "Partial credit for going without breakfast?" Oreo requested. Partial credit was granted, though Bear took to calling Oreo "the standard against which we shall be measured: for short, I dub you, 'The Standard.'" Trudeau, however, didn't find the experiment funny or inspiring or in any way worthwhile. He'd brought the pie, and no one ate the pie not even Oreo, who favors dry kibble. "I can't eat the whole pie!" Trudeau protested. "Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow. Creeps in this petty hunger from day to day," Bear assured him. "Point being, we're going to be awfully hungry tomorrow." Send any questions, comments, suggestions, and Thanksgiving leftovers to newsletter@powells.com. We're especially fond of mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce.
