Pine Cone
Decorations
==========================================
Last year I took a walk and noticed a tree that
had lots of pine
cones under them. I returned with an empty
bag and filled it
with lots of pine cones. As I was picking
them up my mind was
thinking about ways to use these pine cones for
the Christmas
Holidays.
First thing you have to do is bake them in the
oven to dry them
out as they still had a lot of sap. I put
aluminum foil in a large
baking pan and added the pine cones. I had two batches to dry
out. Put the temperature of the oven at 325F no higher or they
will burn.
Now, you can dry them out until almost dry then
add your favorite
spice (like cinnamon, nutmeg, or cloves).
Then finish the process
of drying.
You can then put these wonderful pine cones into
a red, white,
silver, or gold container. Use your
imagination. You can also
put a candle in the center and put the pine cones
around the
candle. Makes a wonderful
centerpiece.

Coloring Your Pine
Cones
==========================================
Take some of your pine cones and make a variety
of
colors. Place some old newspapers down as
you do not
want to mess up the area you are working
in.
Go to your Dollar Store and
get paints. They ususally cost
a dollar for each one. Your kids can help
you paint the pine
cones.
You can even buy the silver or gold sprinkles and sprinkle the pine
cones once you have finished painting them. You must sprinkle
them right after
painting and the sprinkles will stick to the cones.
You can use these also for centerpieces or even
buy a
long, and wide ribbon and glue these pine cones
to them.
Use your imagination and you will have a "budget"
item
for Christmas. What more can you ask
for.
Note: The colors for Christmas this year
are "light blue
and silver". I have already started making
decorations
for my home in these wonderful colors. You
can buy
silver candles with accents of light or dark
blue. Reverse
that and you have blue candles with silver
trimmings.
