Cleaning Jobs

Are the aluminum parts of your patio furniture
looking worn and dingy?
Spruce them up with a detergent-and-water
scrub. Wipe dry with a
soft absorbent cloth, then weatherproof the parts
with a coat of car wax.
Scrub mildew from your wooden patio furniture
with a solution made
of 1 cup ammonia, 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/4 cup baking
soda, and 1 gallon
water. Wipe it off with an asbsorbent
cloth. When the furniture is
completely dry, coat each piece with
mildew-resistant paint, available
at hardware stores. If the wood is
unpainted, coat it with a latex
primer. Make sure it dries completely
before you treat it with
mildew-resistant paint.

Garden Tools, Care and
Storage

Use a reel-on-wheels to keep your garden hose
unsnarled and transportable.
Store it in the garage or shed. Vinyl
hoses, in particular, should be sheltered
from the sun's ultraviolet rays, which cause
vinyl to deteriorate.
If you have a sink in your potting shed, mount a
hose reel on the wall next
to it for ready connection. Run the hose
from the door or window into the
garden.
Be sure to sharpen your hoe on the right side --
the inside edge -- so that
you can pull it through the ground with
considerable ease.
Thank you for joining us today and may you have a
wonderful day.
