We're finishing up the design for our new weekly newsletter right now, so for now...this is what we're stuck with. I'd like to take this time to introduce you to Decaydance Records and their bands. While you're reading up on Decaydance, head over to purevolume.com to hear the new demos from October Fall and Panic! At the Disco. __________________________________________ The right combination of talent and timing are vital to a young band??™s success in today??™s independent music industry. Since exploding onto the scene via Fueled By Ramen Records, Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz has garnered the experience necessary to pique interest from music aficionados worldwide. With his new project, Fueled by Ramen subsidiary Decaydance Records, Wentz can make the most of his experiences as a part of a trail blazing band that utilized different takes on old styles. The secret has been band involvement and creative marketing. ???The decision to do this with Fueled By Ramen was spawned because, in my opinion, they are the best independent label out there. I never would have considered working with any other label,??? says Wentz. While releasing "Take This to Your Grave," Wentz took an active part in the marketing process alongside label owners John Janick and Vinnie Fiorello. In helping Fall Out Boy reach their ultimate level of success, Wentz's attentiveness has been a major part of the Fueled By Ramen group effort. ???As an artist, I want to help other younger bands navigate [industry related] decisions and create a home that is very artist friendly.??? "I'm extremely excited about having Pete and Decaydance under Fueled By Ramen's roof," says Fiorello. "We love the relationship we have with Pete and Fall Out Boy and we know that his dedication to Decaydance and Fueled By Ramen will make this successful." Starting Decaydance was a natural progression for Wentz because of his consistent roll in the Fueled By Ramen family. Wentz first brought The Academy Is??¦ to Fueled By Ramen's attention. Additionally, Wentz has the shared experience of Fiorello (drummer of Gainesville's Less Than Jake), both living the lives of touring musicians, which in turn can be related to young bands on the labels. ???They have slept on peoples' floors, traveled the country in a van, had no money and played shows in front of five kids,??? says Janick. ???They built something great from the ground up.??? Fellow Chicagoans October Fall and Las Vegas??™ Panic! At the Disco are the first two bands to jump on board with Decaydance. Wentz found Panic! At the Disco by chance when the band had posted two of their demos onto the Fall Out Boy LiveJournal community. ???These guys bring something new and fresh that you wouldn't expect,??? says Wentz. ???Imagine if The Postal Service, The Faint and Fall Out Boy all had a kid. This is what you would get, and they have the most amazing lyrics.??? Forming in summer 2003, October Fall exploded mainly via the Internet and landed spots opening for bands like Hey Mercedes and The Early November. ???I see much of the same things in them (October Fall) as I saw in Fall Out Boy,??? says Janick. Wentz and Decaydance have already had a roll in ventures involving Fall Out Boy and recent Fueled By Ramen signees, Gym Class Heroes. The Decaydance imprint has been featured on the limited edition "Take This to Your Grave: The Director's Cut" and their most recent release, "From Under the Cork Tree." Decaydance's first project was a partnership with Fueled By Ramen on the release of Gym Class Heroes' "The Papercut Chronicles." Fiorello, Janick and Wentz are set on changing the face of independent music today. Fiorello has been the creative backbone for much of Less Than Jake and Fueled By Ramen promotions, designing posters, t-shirts and Web sites. Janick is the guiding force behind marketing for the labels, doing much from behind a desk, while Wentz scouts for new artists on the road. ???[It] has become as simple as accepting demos on tour and meeting our fans,??? says Wentz. ???So many young bands are unable to get labels to listen to them.??? The Fueled By Ramen family has been extended to Wentz and Decaydance, allowing bands from both labels to tour and work together. ???Our deal with Pete is very special and the label will be a great place for artists to build careers,??? says Janick. |
