Overview

integrated pharmaceutical company based in Vancouver, Canada, engaged in

manufacturing and international marketing of SucanonTM, a new drug for the
treatment of Type II Diabetes.
Type II Diabetes affects more than
18 million people in North America, over 20 million in Latin America and over
150 million worldwide.
Investment Highlights
- Sucanon is one of only three
drugs approved anywhere in the world, belonging to a new category of drugs
called "insulin sensitizers".
- Sucanon has received
regulatory approval in Mexico. Mexico is the eighth largest pharmaceutical
market and one of the largest diabetic markets in the world. Complications
of diabetes is Mexico's leading cause of death.
- Sales of the drug began in
Mexico in early 2005. Sucanon is now sold in more than 600 stores
nationally in Mexico including outlets of at least six drugstore chains.
- Sucanon has been approved in
Peru and sales are planned to begin later this year. Preliminary
distribution agreements for Sucanon have been negotiated in other Latin
American countries.
- Internet sales of Sucanon
are also planned.
Product Information
Sucanon acts to
increase the body's ability to utilize its insulin, resulting in improved
metabolism and an enhanced sense of well-being for the patient. This increased
insulin sensitivity results in decreased blood sugar levels in those suffering
from Type II Diabetes. Sucanon is one of only three drugs approved anywhere in
the world, belonging to a new category of drugs called "insulin sensitizers".
1. Insulin
binding to receptors and entering the cell, (which is impeded in NIDDM
patients), is essential for the uptake of glucose 2. Sucanon increases
the binding of insulin to its receptors 3. Sucanon increases the
internalization of insulin 4. As a result, Sucanon increases the
intracellular level of insulin, which then increases the uptake of glucose .
Type II Diabetes
Type II Diabetes, or Non-Insulin
Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM), is the most common form of Diabetes. While
Type I or Insulin-Dependent Diabetes typically becomes evident in childhood and
is due to an inborn lack or complete absence of insulin production, Type II
Diabetes typically becomes evident in adulthood and is significantly due to the
patient's lifestyle. Of all diabetics, 85% to 90% are Type II. In many
countries, the incidence of Type II Diabetes has been rising sharply in recent
decades, while the average age of onset has been declining. Type II Diabetes
affects more than 17 million people in North America, over 20 million in Latin
America and over 150 million worldwide.
Marketing
Marketing and distribution of
Sucanon has been discussed with strong pharmaceutical partners in Argentina,
Brazil, Chile, and Venezuela, with other key Latin American markets expected
to follow. Developments are expected in the current year. Also, discussions
are underway to identify a suitable development partner for North American and
Western European markets.
Production
Production of Sucanon key ingredients is
carried out at Biotech's plant in suburban Vancouver, tableting and packaging
is done in Mexico City.
