Do your homework before starting work-at-home biz
Before you spend a cent to start a home-based business, ask yourself a simple question: Do you have a legitimate product or service to sell?
Unless you can honestly answer yes, odds are your dreams of earning extra money from the comfort of your home will never materialize. To build a successful business, you have to have something people want to buy - and can't easily obtain from someone else. In other words, you have to be selling something that requires a certain amount of talent, skill or expertise to produce.
So forget about those unsolicited moneymaking opportunities like mailing out credit-repair information and similar envelope-stuffing offers. You cannot make up to $1,500 a week doing a task that a company could easily do much faster with a mailing machine.
Here's how these schemes work. The promoter advertises how easy it is for you to earn money stuffing envelopes. You pay a fee for a starter kit. Later, when you get the kit, you learn that there's only one way for you to make money. You have to advertise the same "envelope-stuffing" opportunity you received or send copies to friends and relatives.

Although currently, I am the only one working at home, this story isn't complete without including my husband. It was his "entrepreneurial spirit" that awakened my own desire to "be my own boss". We now co-own and operate Healthy Instinct, an Internet-based business specializing in commonsense health care. Our site takes the conventional and alternative, then blends them together for a comprehensive selection of reliable information on health care. It's hard to say when it actually began, because my husband and I have been looking for ways to earn a living, while staying at home with our children, for many years.
