First Jewelry Show for LinorStore
South Elgin’s Riverfest Arts and Craft Show is only a few days away (8/18-19 from 11-5).  I’m very excited about participating in this event with my unique hand crafted gemstone jewelry. In fact, I’d rather be working on the show than doing other necessary projects. However, one must live a balanced life (sigh). See more information at www.linorstore.com/events.htm.

If you’re local, stop by Booth #14 at Riverfest in South Elgin to say hello. I’d love to meet ezine subscribers and get your comments about the ezine and Website.

Entertainment
The latest music news is that I-Tunes is selling John Lennon music downloads for $0.99-$1.29 each. The songs are from albums he did after the Beatles split. His widow Yoko Ono said John would be happy that a new generation could access his art.

She made the same statement in a Larry King interview that I watched on TV about the Vegas production called Love by Cirque Du Soleil, featuring the Beatles’ work. If you’re going to be in Vegas, check out the site
http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSoleil/en/showstickets/love/tickets/default.htm for ticket information.

Sopranos Condos
Speaking of shows, the owner of the pork store featured in The Sopranos TV show is selling the white stones that make up the building for $25-50. The building is being torn down next month and replaced with The Soprano Condominiums.

Sex and the City - The Movie
Mr. Big (Chris Noth) and Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) will reunite in the comedy film based on the TV series. Noth can be seen on TV on NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

Jewish Mourners Pray at French Archbishop’s Funeral
Last week, Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger, archbishop of Paris, died at age 80 in a Paris hospice. Aaron Lustiger, born in 1926 to Polish immigrant parents who ran a hosiery shop in Paris. As an adolescent, he was sent to the town of Orleans, 80 miles south of the capital, to away from the Nazis. He converted to Catholicism at the age of 14, taking the name Jean-Marie.

After losing his mother in the Holocaust, he vowed to work to bring peace between Catholics and Jews, and had requested that his funeral include both faiths. He was ordained as a priest in 1954.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy (whose grandfather was Jewish, but raised Catholic), prominent Jewish leaders of France and Holocaust survivors attended a ceremony at Notre Dame. Lustiger's grandnephew read a psalm in Hebrew and French and placed a bowl of earth gathered from meaningful Jewish and Christian sites in the Holy Land in front of the coffin. Arno Lustiger, an 83-year-old holocaust survivor and cousin of the cardinal, then led the reading of the Mourner's Kaddish, along with Jewish prayers.

Lustiger never rejected his Jewish identity, and the multifaith funeral was his own request. Rev. John T. Pawlikowski, president of the International Council of Christians and Jews, said that “Lustiger still claimed he was Jewish, causing and concern within parts of the Jewish community".  It is "highly unusual" for the Mourner's Kaddish to be read among mourners for a convert from Judaism, said Rabbi Joel Roth, an expert on Jewish law at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York. "It's important to emphasize that it's not possible to be both Jewish and Catholic," he said.

Editor’s Note: If more people were like Lustiger, healing among Christians and Jews might really take place, and perhaps fewer incidents of anti-Semitism would occur. Maybe some other Fundamentalist groups would acknowledge the Holocaust in Germany and not try to convert or kill Jewish people. “From my thoughts to G-d’s ears. …”

Space Station Classes
Teacher-astronaut Barbara Morgan led a class from the space shuttle Tuesday fulfilling the legacy of Christa McAuliffe, who died in the Challenger crash of 1968.

One student from the Discovery Center in Boise, Idaho asked what it’s like to be both a teacher and an astronaut. “Astronauts and teachers actually do the same thing," Morgan answered. "We explore, we discover and we share. And the great thing about being a teacher is you get to do that with students, and the great thing about being an astronaut is you get to do it in space, and those are absolutely wonderful jobs."

Morgan and her colleagues removed a platform from Endeavour's payload bay and attached it to the international space station, to hold large spare parts.
