Happy Autumn!
I'm noticing the leaves changing colors from green to yellow, gold and red. It's so beautiful.

Since I fell off a ladder 3 weeks ago, I've been a little behind in getting out ezine issues and making new jewelry creations from my last shopping trip. But, I'm feeling much better and I'm not on those pain meds anymore. In fact, this morning I woke up 2 hours early to work on my website and to write.

Fall has just begun, and Morkes caramel apples are available at a new Algonquin location at 2755 W. Algonquin Road, just west of Randall Road. Be warned, there's a lot of construction in the area. Morkes is also selling chocolate hard hats and jackhammers, chocolate coffins, skulls, cauldrons, eyeballs and even brains for Halloween.

Chocolate Addiction isn't Physical
Resistance is futile. "The more we try to fight off a craving for chocolate, the more our desire for it grows", a British researcher said.

Certain compounds found in chocolate, for example, phenylethylamine, "produces a buzz when they reach the brain as evidence chocolate is addictive",Rogers said. But many of these compounds also exist in higher concentrations in other foods with less appeal, such as avocados or cheese, and do not cause addiction despite what many chocoholics believe, he said.

Instead, a social attitude that chocolate is "naughty but nice" may actually drive people to see chocolate as a forbidden pleasure and desire it even more, Rogers said.

"It is therefore far more plausible to suggest that a liking for chocolate, and its effects on mood, are due mainly to its principal constituents, sugar and fat, and their related orosensory and nutritional effects," he said in a statement.

As a chocoholic, I'm into pleasures, forbidden or otherwise. :)

10 percent of U.S. employers have used email to fire or lay off employees. In the workplace equivalent of getting dumped over the phone, 17 percent said their bosses had used email to avoid difficult face-to-face interactions.

One of the most famous cases of email firing was by Radio Shack, which cut 400 jobs in August 2006 notifying the laid-off employees by email. Employees received this email in the morning and their dismissals were immediately effective: "The work force reduction notification is currently in progress," the notice stated. "Unfortunately your position is one that has been eliminated." So much for email etiquette.

Job Hunting?
It's a full-time job if you're unemployed. Tools to use are newspapers and online sources such as Monster.com and Careerbuilder. But, networking is still one of the best ways to find a job. Linked-In's popularity has grown in the areas of finding jobs and for sharing knowledge.

Other resources in the Chicagoland area are askinchicago@yahoogroups.com and Gigi's Career Walk Consulting Group, cw-network@listserv.host-source.net. Both allow you to ask questions and share information about other topics, too.
