Poe’s Birthday Visitor
A mysterious visitor paid his annual tribute at the grave of Edgar Allan Poe early Saturday leaving three red roses and a half-filled bottle of cognac

“Almost 150 people had gathered outside the cemetery of Westminster Presbyterian Church, but the man known as the ‘Poe toaster’ was, as usual, able to avoid being spotted by the crowd,” said Jeff Jerome, curator of the Poe House and Museum.

The tribute takes place every Jan. 19 — the anniversary of Poe's birth.

In 1993, the visitor left a note reading, "The torch will be passed." A later note said the man, who apparently died in 1998, had handed the tradition on to his two sons.

This year's visitor was the same man who has come to the grave site many times in the past, Jerome said. "We recognize him from his build, the way he walks," he said. "It would be very easy for us, visually, to see if this were a different person."

Poe, who wrote poems and horror stories including "The Raven" and "The Telltale Heart," died Oct. 7, 1849, in Baltimore at the age of 40 after collapsing in a tavern. Next year will be the 200th anniversary of his birth.

The “r” word (recession) has been avoided. However, the housing market and consumer spending decline and unemployment increase are pointing toward it.

The U.S. economy is also effecting the election. People are working harder and earning less, and gasoline costs to commute to work are taking larger chunks out of everyone’s paychecks.

Tom Cruise, Medal of Valor for Scientology Tom Cruise, world’s biggest movie star & highest paid actor, is awarded high rank in scientology because he’s made 5 million people know about scientology.  And he and John Travolta have paid over $400,000 for the privilege of making this church wealthy.

“It [Scientology] teaches you to look at the world and really see what is and be effective and do something about it. Someone who doesn’t ask permission – we are the authorities,” said Cruise.

Andrew Morton, author of Tom Cruise, an Unauthorized Bio, is generating interest in Cruise and Scientology. For example, secret scientology videos propose that Siri Cruise is actually the offspring of LR Hubbard (belief in reincarnation; Hubbard was founded of International Association of Scientology.) L. Ron Hubbard, science fiction author died in 1986.

Cruise’s speeches of “Crush these guys … psychiatrists, drugs and their patients” and “that psychology is a pseudoscience, developed in Nazi Germany concentration camps and responsible for everything happening in world, even 9/11 attacks” are disturbing to me, considering approximately 19 million people are diagnosed with depression each year.  

In one video, Citizens Commission on human rights, a branch of Scientology says “Psychology is an industry of death – we believe there is no such thing as mental illness … nor medicine for a mental illness. When you study psychology and on this Website, you’ll understand why it’s a crime against humanity.”

Tom saved firefighter’s lives by getting them off inhalers and steroids. Many apparently cured off illness, Scientology illness rundown includes toxic cleaning. Cruise says, “for once we have tools we can apply to ourselves and others. If you apply these tools and keep Scientology working … you’ll get better”.

“Were you there? Do you care? What did you do?” Cruise presented scientology study tech to education board – one of fronts “Applied Scholastics”, concerned about why people don’t know how to study.

“Scientologists believe it’s important to impose their beliefs on all people”, says Morton.

“Mad Money”
Last week, Tom Cruise was the news; this week, it’s his wife, Katie Holmes, one of the stars of “Mad Money” It's the one-year anniversary of her marriage to Tom Cruise.  Their daughter, Suri, will be 2 in April. First word “mama”. “She’s a great mimic… talking all the time. Latest: “Who’s that?”

Katie said she would only do another movie if it would be worth spending time away from her family. Mad Money features Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes. It’s about 3 women who all work at the Federal Reserve who needed money really badly. They tried to do it the right way and failed. “It has great moments of comedy”, says Holmes.
