Subject: LinorStore.com Vacation News - April09, 2008

LinorStore.com will be closed from April 10 to April 23. I'm taking a vacation with my girlfriends and we're going to Las Vegas to see the show Cirque de Soleil. Love, with Beatles music. I'm looking forward to it and trying to get a few things done before then.

This also means that my Etsy shop at
www.lindab142.etsy.com will be closed.

It's been busy, I've been working on new designs for beaded bookmarks and card beads or beadcards. I haven't got "it" yet, but am getting closer. It'll be nice to combine stamping and beading.

Today on the radio, Charles Osgood said that some people are finally recognizing that the U.S. is in a recession and that it'll bottom out (real estate) by mid-year. At least, they're confirming what we've all know for a long time. But, there are no answers for us to get out of it.

Sharpen Your Brain - Dr. Mao A dwindling memory and decreased concentration are generally caused by decreased blood flow to the brain and loss of brain cells.
Research shows that physical exercise may encourage the brain to work at optimum capacity by causing nerve cells to multiply, strengthening their interconnections and protecting them from damage.

Try these actions to sharpen your thinking cap:

• Incorporate mind-stimulating games into your daily life that keep your mind working and stimulated. Listen intently and memorize names, shopping lists, and daily activities. Puzzles and memory games are also helpful.

• Regular cardiovascular exercises, including brisk walking, slow jogging, biking, or swimming, improve circulation to the brain and can help improve memory 20 to 30 percent.

• The sleep factor: A good night's sleep is crucial for mental energy because our body regenerates during sleep. When you feel tired, take a 15-minute power nap.

Brain Foods
A balanced diet rich in essential amino acids, omega oils, minerals and vitamins will ensure a vibrant and sharp memory. Make sure to eat some form of protein with every meal-as nuts, seeds, beans, legumes or animal products.

Wasteful Tech Habits - Yahoo! Tech
Here are things than we can change to save energy and our environment.

-Printing out every page of a document, when you only need the first page. Normally, we end up with papers in a pile and recycle them anyway. So, skip the print step.

-Upgrading to a new MP3, cellphone or iPod when a new version comes out. If your existing one works, use it. When you do eventually upgrade, donate your cellphones to a women's shelter or other place. And, I'm sure there are places to donate your MP3 also.

-Buying your kids every new cheap, annoying electronic gadget that comes out is a mistake. It comes in packaging that fills up our landfills, and probably won't last long anyway when it gets broken. My niece and nephew at 2 and 6 already have cell phone toys that beep and talk and know the difference between their toy and the real one. Most often, they'd rather play with the real one.

-Leaving on your computer all day and night. It only takes a few minutes to boot up, and you can get things done while it's waking up. Save a few energy dollars and turn it off.

-Throwing away items that can be someone else's treasure. Recyle it to a charity or join freecycle.org in your area.

Nuts
Nuts are good for your heart. They contain unsaturated fatty acids and other nutrients, are a great snack food, too. They're cheap and easy to store.

Dr. Gerald Gau is a Mayo Clinic preventive cardiologist and is a specialist in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases. He's been involved with the National Cholesterol Education Program Coordinating Committee, which develops national cholesterol guidelines. He shares his insights on the heart-health benefits of eating nuts.

People who eat nuts as part of a heart-healthy diet have found that nuts lower the LDL, low-density lipoprotein or "bad," cholesterol level in the blood. High LDL is one of the primary causes of heart disease, so nuts' ability to lower LDL cholesterol seems to be quite beneficial.

Eating nuts reduces your risk of developing blood clots that can cause a fatal heart attack. Nuts also improve the health of the lining of your arteries.

Nuts contain a lot of fat; as much as 80 percent of a nut is fat. Even though most of this fat is healthy fat, it's still a lot of calories. That's why you should eat nuts in moderation. Ideally, you should use nuts as a substitute for saturated fat. Instead of eating unhealthy saturated fats, try substituting a handful of nuts. Current dietary guidelines suggest eating 1 to 2 ounces (a small handful) of nuts each day.

This issue gives you some things to think about to benefit your health and the environment.

Peace.
