CLASSIC YACHT TO CHECK OUT -- Savarona, a gorgeous 34-passenger yacht,
first built in 1931 for Emily Roebling Cadwalader, granddaughter of the
architect of the Brooklyn Bridge,later was purchased by Mustafa Kemal
Ataturk, founder of the Turkish Republic. The ship has hosted such guests
as Prince Rainier, Prince Charles, the Sultan of Brunei, King Juan Carlo
of Spain, Princess Diana, and many movie celebrities. Restored, it now has
7-day cruises along Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean
coasts.
NEW
SHIPS TO CHECK OUT -- Mothership Adventures has the 12-passenger
Columbia III on the west coast of Canada ... Adventure Cruise Lines
purchased Pacific Monarch, the ex Spirit of Glacier Bay, from Cruise
West and is starting 3 to 5-day trips to Catalina Island sailing out
of Los Angeles ... Fantasy Cruises has a historic World War II ocean-going
tugboat that after 2 years of refurbishing is offering 9-day Alaska
itineraries between Sitka and Juneau cruising starting May
2008.
INTRODUCTORY FARES AT MAJESTIC
AMERICA -- 2-FOR-1 fares are
available on 4 and 5-night cruises from now through July on the
Mississippi and Ohio rivers and on select 7-night cruises roundtrip from
Portland.. The new company now includes Queen of the West,
Empress of the North, American Queen, Delta Queen, Mississippi Queen,
Columbia Queen, and the Contessa, formerly the
Executive Explorer.
GAMBIA -- For the
first time, the Bremen is sailing to Gambia, located on the west coast of
Africa. The cruise starts in October in the Canary Islands, followed by the Cape Verde Islands, Gambia and
the Gambia River, disembarking in Dakar, Senegal.
Ideal for nature lovers, bird watchers, and the adventurous.
NEW RAINFOREST RESERVE --
There are still
remote and unspoiled places in the world. Amazon Nature Tours offers
expedition cruises to a new reserve in the center of the Amazon. The
reserve encompasses several large river systems and tens of thousands of
square miles of uninhabited wilderness. Entrance to the area will be
strictly for educational purposes.
AMAZON PHOTO CRUISE --
Photographer Rick Sammon will offer tips on photographing people,
wildlife, landscapes and working with digital cameras on an international
Expeditions voyage in September.
EXPLORER AVENTURES
WINS AWARD -- The
Nimrod Explorer diveboat in Australia
received an International Excellence Award from The Minke Whale Project
organization for their whale-sighting records, especially of dwarf minke
whales along the Ribbon Reef section of the Great Barrier Reef in
Australia. Nimrod Explorer is one of the very few vessels holding a
swim-with-whales permit that allows guests to interact with the whales at
close range.
SILVERSEA AT AMERICA'S CUP --
Silver Whisper will be in Spain for America's Cup, and passengers will
have the best seats in the house from June 23 to 29 to view the races from
a position in Valencia Bay directly alongside the race course. Experts on
board will give commentary on every race as it happens in front of the
ship. The voyage also includes a day in Algiers.
NEW
SHIP FOR AMERICAN CRUISE LINES -- The 100-passenger American Star
begins her season with a 7-night maiden voyage on the Chesapeake Bay, departing from Baltimore on June 2. She then heads
north for an inaugural summer along the Maine coast.
SEABOURN CRUISE LINE --
Seabourn Cruise Line ordered two
new-luxury ships for delivery in 2009 and 2010 at $250 million each. Each
ship will have 225 suites, most with private verandas.
THOUSAND ISLANDS --
The recently
refurbished 78-foot Georgian Clipper, with its home port now in Kingston,
Ontario is offering cruises in the famous Thousand Islands/Bay of Quinte
region of Eastern, stopping at Picton,
Brockville and Gananoque. The
4-night itinerary goes from June through October.
EXPEDITION TRIPS 2-FOR-1 -- The icebreaker
Polar Star has a 2-for-1 special on a September 10-day trip of Nova
Scotia and Newfoundland, including the Viking settlement L'anse aux
Meadows
WHALE SHARK SEASON -- The
Galapagos Eco Explorer has dive trips in June and July for prime whale
shark season.
IRELAND GOLF CRUISES -- There are
seven-day golf barging charters available on the Shannon Princess II on
Ireland's Shannon River from now through September. Golfers play on five
courses -- Lahinch Golf Course, Portumna Golf Club, Galway Bay Golf
Course, Athlone Golf Club and Glasson Golf and Country Club. All-inclusive
charter for eight-passengers.
QUILTERS' CRUISE -- Riverbarge
Excursion lines has a quilting cruise beginning in Nashville July 10 that
goes to St. Louis. There will be quilting classes on board and visits to
quilting centers in Paducah, Kentucky, and Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
The one-week cruise starts at $2,120 per person double
occupancy.
DIVING PAPUA NEW GUINEA
-- The Spirit of Niugini, 16 passenger liveaboard dive vessel formerly
operating as Aqua One out of Thailand, will offer diving in Kimbe Bay,
Rabaul, and the islands off East Britain. In the fall they will be
exploring Milne Bay and little known Conflict Islands.
BLACK SEA -- Tauck has announced a new cruise itinerary on the
Black
Sea, the first
Black Sea voyage for the 81-year-old tour,
cruise and safari operator. It includes a 7-night cruise aboard Le Levant,
plus four nights in Istanbul. Guests will visit 6th
century mosques, the palaces of sultans, spice bazaars in Istanbul, a
winery founded by Tsar Nicholas II to supply the royal family, a Cold
War-era Soviet submarine base carved inside the base of a mountain, and a
620-mile tunnel complex beneath Odessa used by revolutionaries, smugglers
and WWII partisans. The cruise visits Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, and
Turkey.
BLUE LAGOON CRUISES -- There are
savings of up to $700 per couple for new six-night cruise/dive packages on
the Fiji Princess, making
a fare of $3,777 per couple.
The dives are in Fiji's
remote Yasawa Islands with 15 dives, including a night dive and wreck
diving plus time ashore, snorkelling shallow reefs, and village
visits.

South Georgia in October, November and December in which skiers can ski
the snowline often down to the beach. For ski randonee (ski
mountaineering), guests must be strong skiers with mountaineering
experience.
