As you probably know, Sri Lanka bore the brunt of the Tsunami tragedy that has hit the greater part of South East Asia. The tragic loss of life, devastation, and sorrow is beyond description.

As you may also be aware, several parts of Sri Lanka were stuck, including villages, towns and also the village of Kalkudah/Valachenai where the Bethel Children??™s Home is located.

My local church sponsors the Children??™s Home, a place where orphans from the terrible civil war that has ravaged the country can find some solace and peace, and the staff attempt to heal the internal wounds of these lonely children who have witnessed the death of their mothers and fathers, siblings and the destruction of their entire villages.

Thankfully all our children are safe with no loss of life or injuries but there have been in excess of 400 people who have died in that village (Kalkudah/Valachenai).

We are thankful that all our staff and home are safe but all are shaken by the ordeal.

The government of Sri Lanka is continuing to issue warnings of possible future tidal waves, so everyone is unsettled. CNN has reported that the force of the quake that started the tsunami was equivalent to the force of a million atom bombs. Our Bible School premises were totally covered by water, with much damage and loss of all our equipment and facilities, etc. Fortunately all our Bible School students were on practical ministry in other parts of Sri Lanka, including those from the Children??™s Home.

Friends, fellow pastors and families in the surrounding towns were badly affected with the loss of homes and all their possessions, including some families from our Colombo church; but thankfully no loss of life. Some areas where we conduct our Leadership Ministry Training Schools have been totally devastated with the loss of hundreds of lives.

As a friend of mine, Marlon Sanders, says: ???I can??™t solve the problems of the world. I can??™t solve the wars or the hunger. But I can, in an unprecedented event like the recent Tsunami, give to others to show I care.???
