Until he extends his circle of compassion to all living things, man himself will not find peace. Albert Schweitzer, 1875-1965, German Born Medical Missionary, Theologian, Musician, and Philosopher I realize this is very short notice, but this is so important I had to write. If you can make one simple phone call within the next 24 hours it may make a big difference in the life of a horse, and possibly many 1000's of horses. Most of you, like me, absolutely love horses and treasure the many joys that our relationship with this incredible creature brings into our existence on this earth. Horse slaughter does not equate with this relationship. It does not belong in this Country, nor in any for that matter. Today, you can make a difference in America for the majestic animal that daily renews our love for life. Congressman John Sweeney has given us an opportunity to speak on the secret horror of horse slaughter for human food consumption. He is a friend of mine, and he is a valued ally of the horse industry. He is fervent in his quest to end the needless and very brutal killings of 1000's of horses every year. Please read and please call U.S. House of Representatives by June 8th at 202-224-3121. Call your Congressman and urge them to vote YES on the Sweeney- Spratt Agriculture Appropriations Amendment to Save Americas Horses from slaughter for human consumption overseas. If you really love horses, ACT NOW... Your calls are needed NOW to stop the brutal slaughter of America's Horses. Currently your tax dollars are being spent to inspect the slaughter of horses for human consumption overseas in three USDA horse slaughterhouses located in Texas and Illinois. The massive slaughter of America's horses is a hidden practice; it is a blight on the American horse industry. TOMORROW, Wednesday, June 8, Representatives John Sweeney (R-NY) and John Spratt (D-SC) will offer an amendment on the agriculture appropriations bill to stop the funding of USDA inspections at horse slaughterhouses and at the United States border. The issue of horse slaughter isn't just one of disposal of unwanted horses; we do not slaughter unwanted dogs and cats for human consumption. The pro slaughter forces often ask, "Who is going to pay for these unwanted horses to be euthanised?" The answer is simple - their owners. It is owners' responsibility to cover the cost of euthanasia and disposal. It is the owner's responsibility to breed responsibly and prepare for the retirement of their horses. If they do not, they should not engage in the privilege of owning horses. As of 5/21/05 33,489 American horses have been slaughtered, including 41 American mustangs. Between 1980 and May 21, 2005, your tax-dollars were used to pay for the USDA inspection of 4,007,645 American horses brutally slaughtered in foreign owned slaughterhouses located in the United States. Between 1990 and 2000, 500,000 American horses exported to Canada for slaughter. The slaughter of horses for human consumption is barbaric. Horses are slaughtered using a 4" nail to the head and throat cutting, not euthanasia via lethal injection. This is truly the agony of defeat for the animal that will run its heart out for us. Just look at Exceller and Ferdinand. Please act today. With unbridled passion for the most beautiful creature on earth; the horse, I remain Sincerely yours, Susan Kayne email: unbridledtv@aol.com phone: 518.218.7625 web: http://www.unbridled.tv " The following link will take you to phone numbers for Congressional districts for each state. http://www.postalwatch.org/con_dis1.htm @~@~@~ Support a Worthy Cause @~@~@~ Personal Ponies is a non-profit organization that makes it possible for special needs people to know the joy of having their own pony.
