1. Welcome!

After some pretty heavy rain last night,
everything is getting green here! We have
a good size garden plowed, and when it dries
up enough, we'll be able to start planting. It
seems too early to me, but the growing season
is longer down here than it was in Ohio.

I hope I'm up to the work it will require. It's
been several years since  I had a serious garden.

I remember how much I enjoyed working in the
garden, and the satisfaction I felt when we had
a good garden.

One year I had a flower garden that grew
petunias that resembled TREES. They were
gigantic. At the time, I attributed the success
of that flower garden with plenty of horse
manure. But since then, I think the success
was due to the time I spent working and
enjoying, and being grateful for the experience.

I hope the garden is one of the things that
provides me some relaxation and stress reduction this year.

   Enjoy the newsletter!

I had mentioned several months ago, the
Equine Affaire that was to be held in Kentucky.
I was really counting on going,
but I had to work that day. My husband
and daughter were able to go! Shelle had
her picture taken with Clinton Anderson!
And, of course also got a signed poster.
There were exhibits on every breed,
association booths, and vendors for
anything you could possibly need for
a horse.

There were also many informational booths
on other agricultural areas.

The equine Affaire is coming to Columbus,
Ohio in April. You can get more info,
schedules, a list of exhibitors, maps, and
more at http://www.equineaffaire.com/

3. Resources

As an animal owner, the National Animal
Identification System (NAIS) will soon
affect you, if it hasn't already.  This
System's plan is to microchip all animals
in the country, and enter both them and
any premises they may ever be on in
databases. This system is not just about
identifying animals, but is also about tracking
each and every animal in the country.  They
tell us it is about disease control - but they
already track that quite well.

That's right - each and every animal.  Do
you show your horses?  Do you trail ride?
Do they occasionally get out?  Do you take
your dog for walks?  Do you have a few
chickens in your barnyard, or a barn cat to
keep down mice?  Are you aware that you
will have to register your premises - even if
you do not own animals - if somebody with
a dog visits you for even a few hours? Do
you know how much the fees for everything
are going to run?  Do you know how other
countries have handled - or have mishandled -
their animal identification systems?  What
happens when your barn cat has kittens,
and you didn't register the visit of their father,
even if you didn't know about it?   How
will this affect your business, or the animals
that you keep for milk, eggs, or meat?

Exactly how involved do you want the
government in your personal life?  Isn't the
government involved ENOUGH in your
business and personal life?

Join us on March 20, 2006 as we discuss
these issues.  The call is free, beyond what
your phone service charges for toll calls. The
call should go about 90 minutes, and you
should definitely reserve your copy of the
audio and transcript.

I am currently attending one of the teleclasses
that were offered at Equine Teleseminars. The
series I am in the middle of is How to Start
and Run a Rescue. It has been really interesting
with all the stories the instructor has after so
many years of practical experience.

I highly recommend the free teleseminar above.
I'm sure most people aren't aware of just what is
in the works for animal owners and lots of other
groups until a free service like this spends
money, time and energy for such a worthy
cause.

A few months down the road, you could be
forced to do something, and get angry because
nobody told you it was coming.

Well, here it is! :)
Go to the link above and get informed!

This is a very small list. If you know anyone else
who could benefit from this, please let them know.
