Almond French Toast Ingredients: 1 cup slivered almonds 3 eggs 1 cup milk 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon almond extract 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 12 thick slices French bread 3 tablespoons canola oil 3 tablespoons butter confectioners' sugar for dusting (optional) Directions: Place almonds in a small saucepan over low heat. Tossing frequently, toast until lightly browned, 5 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat, and set aside. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, flour, salt, baking powder, almond extract and vanilla extract. Soak bread slices in the mixture until saturated. Place slices in a shallow pan. Refrigerate slices approximately 1 hour. Heat canola oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. One at a time, press one side of soaked bread slices in the almonds to coat. Fry bread slices on both sides until golden brown. Dust with confectioner's sugar before serving. Serves 6 ****~~~~**** Nap's Craft Of The Day!! You can find the link at the bottom of this letter and the top! :) MATERIALS: California Creations Stepping Stone Kit, Square Measuring cup 5 quart plastic mixing container Mini Frame, 2-inches x 3-inches Designway Frosted Star Pocket Erasers Glitter Glue Pens, Gold, Red, and Blue Amazing Goop Patio Paint, Geranium Red Patio Paint, Sunshine Yellow Patio Paint, Clear Coat (optional) Plaid Apple Barrel Colors, Too Blue (optional) Paint brush INSTRUCTIONS: Mix, pour, and prepare the cement according to the directions included in the California Creations Stepping Stone Kit. Arrange the 8 Frosted Star Erasers on the table next to your stepping stone to make sure you have the desired spacing. Then, place the 8 Frosted Star Erasers on top of the cement and push and tap them into the cement until they are flush with the cement. If you make a mistake with your design, simply remove any embedded objects, rinse objects, pat and smooth the cement surface with the mixing stick and try again. Allow cement to cure undisturbed for 48 hours. DO NOT MOVE STEPPING STONE WHILE IT IS SETTING OR IT WILL CRACK. After cement has cured, gently flex the mold. As the cement releases from the mold, peel the mold away from the stepping stone. Before decorating, make sure the stepping stone is clean and any powder residue is removed. If the stepping stone has white residue on the surface after it is completely cured, the residue can be removed by washing the stone or scrubbing the surface with a wire brush. NOTE: Allow paint to dry completely between each coat (Optional) You may paint over the words on the front of the frame with Too Blue, let dry thoroughly, then seal with Clear Coat to make the frame more weather resistant. Remove the black backing from the Mini Frame. Prepare the surfaces to be glued and sealed according to Amazing Goop instructions. Lay the frame upside down on your work area and set the glass into the frame. Fill the gap between the glass and frame with a small amount of Amazing Goop to seal the glass into the frame to make it more weather resistant. Let Amazing Goop dry thoroughly. When Amazing Goop is completely dry, place your photo into the frame. Use Amazing Goop on the backside of the frame, turn frame over and place it onto the cement where you want the frame positioned. Let Amazing Goop dry thoroughly. Paint the words SUPER DAD with Sunshine Yellow. Add highlights to letters with Red Glitter Glue Pen. Paint the number 2005 with Geranium Red. Add highlights to numbers with Gold Glitter Glue Pen. Outline each Frosted Star Eraser with Gold, Red, or Blue Glitter Glue Pens. (Optional) To add additional gloss and durability, use a large flat brush to apply Clear Coat onto surface of cement and painted areas. Let dry Note: the Clear Coat will make the cement appear a little darker. Additional Stepping Stone Preparation Tips: In the first stages of mixing cement the cement mix will seem way too dry. There is a tendency to add too much water to make it easier to mix, which over saturates the mix with water. When the cement is too wet the project time for setting and decorating is increased. When mixing cement, the water to cement ratio is very low and a small amount of water goes a long way. Even if the cement mix seems dry continue to mix until all cement is completely mixed, then if it is too thick add water only 1 tablespoon at a time and mix completely. Shake and smooth mold multiple times as instructed in Step 4 of the kit instructions. Might have to repeat multiple times to achieve smoothest surface. Once cement is in the mold, if cement seems too dry, if no glossy surface on top, sprinkle surface with water and continue to smooth and shake mold as in Step 4 of the kit instructions until glossy surface appears. Pat cement with flat edge of stick over the more dry/lumpy areas to make surface equally glossy. If all dry/lumpy areas are not removed the stone surface can become uneven and grainy when it is dry. ****~~~~**** Jessica's Secret Tips! To clean it, simply push the needle through a soap-filled steel-wool pad several times. This should do the job and you can use again. If not, buy a new package. LOL!
