Baste With Oil For Sunburn Healing!
?© By Lena Sanchez

And You thought it was only for cooking!!

APPLYING virgin olive oil to your skin after sunbathing
protects you against skin cancer, claim Japanese scientists.
They have found that using it as an after-sun lotion slows
tumor growth in mice.

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation in sunlight creates free radicals,
which damage DNA in skin cells and trigger abnormal
growth, often leading to skin cancer. Antioxidants such
as vitamin E mop up these radicals and are thought to
protect against UV damage. So Masamitsu Ichihashi and
his colleagues from the Kobe University School of
Medicine decided to find out if olive oil, which is a
potent source of antioxidants, provides UV protection.

They gave hairless mice three UV sessions a week under
a sunlamp. Five minutes after the treatment, they painted
their skin with either regular or extra virgin olive oil.
After 18 weeks, control mice started to grow skin tumors,
and mice treated with regular olive oil fared little better.
But mice daubed with virgin olive oil took an extra six
weeks to show any sign of cancer. What's more, their tumors
were smaller, less frequent and there was less DNA damage to
skin cells.

The researchers are quick to point out that olive oil isn't
a sunscreen. But they claim that rubbing on olive oil after
sunbathing could help protect skin from UV damage.

So if you have had too much sun spray or rub Virgin
Olive oil on it for healing damage!

Have a healthy summer.

1. Spread honey on burns to prevent infection and stop the
hurt.

2. Burns will heal fast if covered with the froth of a
lightly beaten egg white.

3. Eat a generous spoonful of horseradish sauce each day to
prevent baldness of the head.

4. If the hair begins to thin, rub the scalp each evening
with vinegar to restore thick growth.

5. Two teaspoons of vinegar in a glass of water, taken three
times a day, is good for kidney infections.

Readers Corner

None this month. Send in your comments, good or bad we want
to hear from you.

I am sure everyone has heard of the devastating weather that
came hurling through so many states and towns. We have been
very blessed to not of had any damage. However just a hop
and skip away in another town the wind and tornado damage
was terrible. Our prayers go out to all who has been
effected by this storm.

Our only challenge is to get our pool back together. We
needed a new liner for the 16 x 32 pool. My husband was
attempting to put one in for the third time. I guess three
liners in 10 years is not bad. However this time I decided
to save gas and not go into the city and get the liner I
usually get.

I ordered one thru a catalog since the sales person said
that if the liner has an over hang their liner will fit.
Wrong, it was not enough over hang compared to the liner we
usually get which is for a doughboy pool.

Before he realize it was not going to work, the water was
being put into the pool and the liner almost collapsed one
end. It sat like that until he could get to it and in
the meanwhile the winds stared to come.

Finally, one side collapsed, then with the storms
approaching the other side collapsed. So our hectic month
will continue until the pool gets put together. He now has
to take it all apart and clean all the side grooves of the
mud from all the rain. Then he has to try and get the liner
out which has taken in the rain water. Roll up the sides to
prevent it from getting any creases or dents in it.
Do I hear any volunteers?  :)

The Good, the Bad & the Ugly
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. The good news is that mounting evidence has been reported
that eating more omega-3 fats helps ward off fatal heart
attacks, autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis,
severe menstrual cramps, and maybe even depression.
2. The bad news is that even though many researchers told us
modern diets-even healthy ones-are routinely deficient in
omega-3's.
3. The Ugly news is that the four top killers are: heart
disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes. These killers claim
almost 2 million lives a year.
4. This super concentrated super healer turns out to be a
mega-source, this time for the plant version of omega 3..
called alpha-linolenic acid.
5. The oil in flaxseed is about 50 percent alpha-linolenic
acid. Canola and walnut oils, the next highest sources, have
about 10 percent.
6. The best news is if you don't eat fish regularly, this
nutrient is your best omega-3 bet. Get started today on
flaxseed oil.
