  • Interactive map of Swedish universities

In Sweden, there are 39 accredited institutions of higher education. Many of them offer English-language education accessible to international students. Finding the institution that is right for you depends on a number of factors - your academic interests, course availability, but also the location and size of an institution.

For many international students, Sweden's geography is unfamiliar: When it comes to towns, few non-Swedes can tell their Ume? from their Lule?. These towns have universities, however, so it's good to know where they are. That's why StudyinSweden.se now has an interactive map. Read more: Eurogates.Forum

  • EU Parliament members want larger 'European dimension' in national education

The Parliament's Committee on Culture and Education has adopted a non-binding report on support measures to include the 'European dimension' in school curricula.

The Committee wants EU national education systems to ensure that their pupils have, by the end of their secondary education, the necessary knowledge and competences to prepare them for their roles as future EU citizens. • BUDGET: 'NL doing better than other EU states'

The Netherlands is experiencing strong economic growth after years of decline and slow recovery, Finance Minister Gerrit Zalm said recently. "The Netherlands is now doing better in many aspects than the other countries of the European Union. Economic growth is higher and the State finances have been put in order in record tempo," he said as he presented the 2007 Budget.

Zalm, who has been in charge of the country's finances since 1994, was so enthusiastic he told parliament there was a "new economic perspective". There are more jobs, purchasing power is rising and fewer people are dependent on government benefits, he said. In addition, the climate for companies setting up here is better and crime levels are down.

There will be a budget surplus for the first time since 2001, amounting to 0.2 percent in 2007. The national debt will be 48 percent of GDP, the first time it has been below 50 percent in 25 years. This puts the Netherlands 10 percent under the European average. Read more: Eurogates.Forum

Unemployment in the Netherlands is at its lowest level since the summer of 2003. In the first eight months of 2005, the seasonally corrected unemployment figure stayed around 490 thousand. "Since then, the number of unemployed has dropped significantly.
