A story from Dr Andrew Cunningham:   "It's no surprise to me, as an English teacher, that the IB is proving so popular. After nearly twenty years of teaching A-levels, I've just started teaching the IB for the first time this term at North London Collegiate School.  I've already been struck by how much it can push and stretch sixth-formers.

The range of books is more challenging and the pupils have to think for themselves far more than under the A-level system. I'm currently teaching the world literature part of the IB Diploma. As the IB is more international in outlook, the focus is on the study of literature from all countries, not just Britain...."

  • French complain to Commission over Belgian student quota

After the Belgian Court of Arbitration rejected the complaint of French students on Belgian foreign student quota, students have now complained to the Commission about this decree, saying it violates the EU principles on right to student mobility, in particular the Articles 149 and 150 of the Treaty.

The decree limiting the number of foreign students to 30% in a number of subjects, such as veterinary medicine and physiotherapy, was tabled by the minister for higher education for the French-speaking community of Belgium, Marie-Dominique Simonet in February 2006. It was immediately denounced by the Federation of French-speaking students in Belgium (F?d?ration des ?tudiants francophones - FEF) as a violation of "the principle of student mobility".  Read more: Eurogates.Forum

With its about 32,000 students of more than 130 nations, the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz is one of the largest German universities. With its 2,200 academics and scientists teaching and researching in more than 150 institutes and clinics, the University also constitutes the academic center of the state Rhineland-Palatine.

The University of Mainz distinguishes itself as such due to its good equipment and fittings. The University positions itself by large-scale capital equipments that are intensively used by international research groups.
