.................................................................... Daily Chatter .................................................................... Hi again :D Thanks for joining me for lunch today. I'm not sure what I am going to have yet - but Indian food is sounding really yummy right now :) hehe! A lot has happened since I last wrote. My divorce was OFFICIALLY finalized for one. That is the biggest change. David and I went to Lydia's (David's daughter) 2nd grade play - Mice in Space. I thought Lydia was the cutest mouse there. I had mixed feelings about the play itself though. I understand that they are trying to teach kids to be accepting of people with differences but that's not the message that it sent. The play goes a bit like this. A spaceship of alien mice crash-land on earth. The earth mice immediately decide they don't like them because they are different; however, that all changes when the space mice come up with an idea to stop a cat that has been troubling the earth mice for some time. At this time, the Earth mice embrace the Space Mice and welcome them into their mouse community. My problem is this: is it ok to perpetuate the idea that it's ok to shun someone until they have shown usefulness? Why not just accept them right off the bat? I know that's not the intention of the play, but of the 3 children that saw it, all three of them gleened that message. David and I spent an hour debriefing them on the fallacy of that message. How is that different from not accepting someone as a friend until they have shown themselves useful and done your homework for you? hmmm.... well, perchance I am being a little overly critical of the writer's intent, but it seems to me that the plot was written by someone who has rarely, if ever, been in a position of having friends that just want to be your friend till your usefulness runs out - or those who won't have anything to do with you until you have proven your usefulness to begin with.
