Updates on A REAL BASKET CASE and the Sequel

Thanks to support from you readers buying copies or requesting that your libraries order copies, A REAL BASKET CASE has gone into its third printing and can be found in over 200 library systems in the USA. My publisher couldn't be happier with my sales and requested that I turn in the manuscript for the sequel to the Acquisition Editor. I sent the manuscript for TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET at the beginning of June. In the sequel, Claire Hanover takes a ski vacation in Breckenridge, Colorado with her husband, Roger, and daughter, Judy, and the sister of Judy's boyfriend is killed on the slope. Claire once again sticks her nose where it doesn't belong, because her mama bear claws spring into action when her daughter is threatened.

Many thanks to my Amazon Reviewers

It's sooo gratifying to receive emails from readers who enjoyed A REAL BASKET CASE. Even better is when you post glowing reviews on the Amazon.com website (which still has my book discounted 34%, by the way)! To read those reviews, go to: Amazon customer reviews .

Anyone feel like posting a review to the Barnes and Noble website, or even better, to your local library website or fan lists of mystery readers, such as DorothyL or the yahoogroups CozyMysteryKorner or 4_Mystery_Addicts? And tell your friends that you have the perfect recommendation for a fast, light read while they're on summer vacation!

Email Subscription Contest

My gift basket giveaway contest for subscribers to my email newsletter ended on June 30, 2007. However, I am brainstorming a new contest that I hope to start soon. If you have any ideas, please email me . In whatever form the new contest takes, current email newsletter subscribers will be eligible, so please continue to encourage your friends to sign up! My last gift basket award went to:
  • Mary from Washington, DC, who chose the chocoholic basket

Media Exposure

On Saturday, June 23rd, the Colorado Springs Gazette newspaper published in the Life section Bill Reed's article including interviews about the writing business that he conducted at the Pikes Peak Writers Conference back in April. Read it at The Gazette . I'm featured along with agent Kristin Nelson, editor Steve Saffel, and best-selling author Robert Crais. I'm honored to be in such a group! As VP of Pikes Peak Writers, my hope is that the article will encourage local writers who are not yet members to join the group and experience the benefits of our programs.

Also back in April, I did an Internet radio interview with Jeannette Cezanne on her World of Publishing show on the World Wide Artist Internet broadcasting site. It took awhile for the recording to be put on their archive so it would be available for folks to listen to after the fact. I don't know how long it's been there, but I ran across it a few days ago. To listen, click here and then click on "Track 7/Live Recording," which is labeled "Beth Groundwater." Probably because the interview was conducted by telephone, my voice is softer than the interviewer's, so you may need to turn up the sound on your computer. Let me know what you think!

Book Clubs

I have four meetings scheduled with Book Clubs in August and September, and I'd love to do more, either in person or by phone. If you're a member of a Book Club and would like me to speak to your group, please email me . Your Book Club will be entered into a drawing for a signed spiral-bound manuscript of A REAL BASKET CASE made prior to copy edit, an advanced reading copy or a collector's edition of the book bound upside-down (yes, I DID say upside-down!). I conduct these meetings as informal question and answer sessions, so if you have some burning questions to ask a writer, now is your chance!

Website Updates

I've added photos from a number of my appearances to my Author Photos page. You may recognize some of the other authors in the group shots. And I have stories about some of the events in my blog at www.bethgroundwater.blogspot.com . The "Author Sleepover Party" was a fun weekend! Under the entry, "Creating Whoopie at Mayhem in the Midlands," I talk about the illuminating props author Carl Brookins brought to our panel, "In the Bedroom with Colonel Mustard: Sex and the Traditional Mystery." Mystery authors sure know how to have a good time!

Contact Me

If you have any questions or topics you want me to address on my blog and/or in my newsletter, please feel free to email me anytime at website07@bethgroundwater.com .

I'm taking a break during the month of July, with only one signing scheduled, so I can spend some time vacationing with my family. That's why this newsletter covers two months. I'll send out another update in August. In the meantime, check out my Fall appearances schedule .
