Hello Cruise Fans, Welcome to the May 1 edition of the 7 Seas Cruise News. Sorry about the time lag again. My intentions are good, but "buoy," is my plate full! I have a lot of cruise news to share with you, but first a few words from Pat… Pat has an idea that everyone should spend their government economic stimulus check on a cruise. Think how much fun that would be! It' s good for the US economy--and it couldn't hurt our friends in those little islands either. (Truth is, it wouldn't hurt my economy either! LOL) Vacation should be the one thing we don't cut back on. We need it! And if you have to compromise anything, maybe cut back to a 5-night instead of a 7-night. Or stay with a 7-night, but dial it down to an ocean-view cabin instead of a balcony. Or settle for the Caribbean instead of Alaska or Europe. But there are good--even great--buys out there and Pat would love to put you on a cruise this summer. Go ahead and call him to talk about it. 1-866-424-1090. Pat and I took advantage of our proximity to Miami and spent last Saturday night on board the Norwegian Sun. It was a one-night cruise to nowhere and it was great fun. The Sun is holding its own in this era of mega-ships. Smallish by today' s standards, it has everything you need-- beautiful pools, lovely lounges, a kid's pool, hot tubs and beautiful restaurants. We treated ourselves to a spectacular dinner at Le Bistro. The ship was heading to the Panama Canal, Mexican Riviera, West Coast and Alaska as we got off on Sunday morning. How we envied the people boarding for that trip! If you haven't tried NCL lately, it's a reasonably priced line with spacious cabins, good itineraries, courteous service and a lot of style. Oh, and the food is very good to fantastic. Ask Pat for NCL values this summer. Now, some cruise news… A proposed federal rule change being sought by an operator of inter-island Hawaiian cruises could spell disaster for the bustling cruise industry at the Port of Los Angeles, which stands to lose nearly 15 percent of its calls and millions of dollars in annual revenue. The pending change would amend the 122-year-old Passenger Vessel Services Act and require all foreign- flagged cruise ships departing from California and headed to Hawaii to spend at least 48 hours and a third of the trip docked at a foreign port. Currently, foreign-flagged vessels operating California-to-Hawaii cruises are required only to make quick stop at a foreign port before sailing on to the islands. The new rules would force them to overhaul itineraries and potentially extend cruises by a week or more, which experts say would make the cruises very difficult to book. Though the change would impact all California ports, the new rule would particularly hurt Southern California since most Hawaiian cruises sail out of either Los Angeles or San Diego. In 2007, 38 cruises departed from Los Angeles bound for Hawaii and 22 left from San Diego. Hawaiian cruises are offered by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Princess Cruises. We'll keep you informed as this issue is resolved. New for this season, Princess has increased capacity in Asia with two ships and three new 14- to 16-day itineraries offered on the newly named Ocean Princess (formerly Tahitian Princess), which will also venture into India and Africa. Other new itineraries include a 31-day West Africa Adventure and a special 13- day holiday sailing in Australia/ New Zealand on Diamond Princess. In addition, Pacific Princess will set off on an extensive 107-day world cruise visiting 40 destinations. The 2010 worldwide sailing will feature maiden calls to a number of fascinating new ports, including Topolobampo for Mexico's Copper Canyon, Vietnam's "City of Peace" Halong Bay, and Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt. Beginning this summer, the Sanctuary, Princess' trademark retreat will be added to Island Princess, followed by Grand Princess and Star Princess by the end of the year. The Sanctuary, which debuted in 2006 aboard Crown Princess, gives a perfect place to take a break and indulge in a private getaway with a plush, outdoor spa-inspired setting, complete with massage cabanas, signature beverages, light meals, attentive service and relaxing personal entertainment. The exclusive adults- only retreat enjoyed continued popularity on sister ship Emerald Princess, and will also be available on Ruby Princess, debuting in November. Passengers enjoy the personal attention of Serenity Stewards in The Sanctuary, who are on hand to provide everything from a chilled face towel and Evian water atomizers, to a menu of healthy beverages and fare. Serenity Stewards also have personal MP3 players with noise canceling headphones available loaded with themed playlists focused on relaxation for those who want to escape with music. Half-day passes for The Sanctuary are available for $ 10 per person, for 8 am to 12:30 pm or 1 pm to 5 pm. Passengers choosing to indulge with an outdoor massage may also enjoy an hour's use of The Sanctuary area after their treatment. Carnival Cruise Lines has added a new eight- day eastern Caribbean cruise option from New York aboard the 2,124-passenger Carnival Miracle featuring port calls to Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos; the private island of Half Moon Cay; and Nassau, The Bahamas. The new cruise route will be offered approximately once a month from May through September 2009 and will complement the ship's existing eastern Caribbean cruise schedule from New York featuring stops at San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas, U.S.V.I., and Tortola, British Virgin Islands. One of the Caribbean's newest ports, Grand Turk has quickly earned the reputation as a guest favorite. In addition to numerous historic attractions and palm tree-lined powdery beaches, Grand Turk is considered one of the world's best spots for snorkeling and scuba diving. Cruises stop at the new Grand Turk Cruise Center, which features an 800-foot- long private beach, a swimming pool, and the Caribbean's largest Margaritaville themed restaurant. Cunard Line is honoured to announce that Her Majesty The Queen will make a farewell visit to Queen Elizabeth 2 in Southampton on Monday June 2, 2008. QE2, the most famous ship in the world, and for 35 years the flagship of the Cunard fleet, was launched by Her Majesty at Clydebank on September 20, 1967 - forty years ago last year. Since then QE2 has travelled over 5.6 million nautical miles, more than any ship ever; has carried over 2.5 million guests; has completed 25 World Cruises; and has crossed the Atlantic 802 times. She leaves Cunard's service in November 2008. That'll do for this week. I'll do my best to get the news to you on a moe timely basis! Promise! And in the meantime, give Pat a call to plan a relaxing, therapeutic or a frantic and exciting cruise. Whichever you need the most! 1-866-424-1090! And until next week, smooth sailing! Teri |
