Greetings, cruise fans-- Welcome to the August 26 edition of the 7 Seas Cruise News. Pat and I are watching Hurricane Gustav swirling around down in the Caribbean. Here's hoping he skips Florida. We are all still saturated from crazy Fay who overstayed her welcome and left portions of the state mighty soggy. On a brighter note, we hope all your little ones are heading back to a successful new school year, and anticipating the holiday break, Pat is suggesting you look into a delightful voyage aboard the Carnival Glory, sailing Dec. 20 from Port Canaveral. You'll sail the eastern Caribbean for 7 nights (including a joyous Christmas). $835 per person (Inside two lower), double occupancy is about the best holiday rate Pat says he has seen in years! And Pat's $835 price includes all taxes, all port charges and the fuel supplement. This is a past-guest discounted rate which also applies to residents of certain states. Call Pat toll-free at 1-866-424-1090 to see if your state qualifies. If you've ever sailed with Carnival, you have already qualified! Wow. What a Christmas present! It's not too early to think about summer 2009 either. If Alaska is in your plans, let Pat get you fixed up now. He'll get you the best rate available right for, and should the price go down, he'll get you that rate and then discount it for you, too. That's my Pat! And now, friends, some cruise news... The first regular New York-Bermuda service was opened in January 1874 by the Quebec Steamship Co, which was awarded a contract by the Government of the day. This line was followed by the Furness Bermuda Line, Cunard Line, Holland America Line, Home Lines and Celebrity Cruises, all of whom docked on Front Street in downtown Hamilton. Also included in this crowd was Norwegian Cruise Line. Today, however Front Street has lost its business, a victim of larger ship size. Since the Celebrity Zenith sixteen years ago, no new ship has been built for the Bermuda trade and in today's world of economy of scale, it seems unlikely that one ever will be. The survivor today is Norwegian Cruise Line, which last November signed a contract that will make it the big player in Bermuda. With the 2008 season, it has also become the only line to offer the traditional 3-night stay in Bermuda, but none of their ships calls on Front Street. They are all too large to get there. A new cruise terminal for larger cruise ships has been operating at the former Royal Naval Dockyard in Bermuda's west end for many years and nearby features include the Dockyard itself, the Maritime Museum, the Bermuda Dolphin aquarium, shopping and a pub called the Frog and Onion. However, for those who don't know, it's a long way to Hamilton, and even with the recent introduction of fast ferries in recent years, it takes half an hour to get into town at best. While the ferry ride itself might only take 15 minutes, there is also the waiting and terminal time, and the fare of $4 per person. Still, Bermuda is fantastic! You'll never see prettier beaches or more beautiful water. Flowers are stunning, people are friendly and ... well, you can't go wrong. Effective October 1, 2008 for all Celebrity ships, smoking will no longer be permitted inside any stateroom or on any stateroom veranda. Cigarette smoking will only be permitted in designated indoor and outdoor areas of the ship, while cigar and pipe smoking will only be permitted in designated outdoor areas. Smoking will not be permitted in any dining venue, theater, hallway, elevator or corridor. Violations to this smoking policy will result in a $250 cleaning fee being charged to the guest's onboard account and may also be addressed through Celebrity Cruises' Guest Conduct Policy. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard. Carnival Cruise Lines will launch an extensive stateroom recategorization encompassing the entire "Fun Ship" fleet, with the Carnival Valor the first ship to feature the new accommodation categories effective Monday, Aug. 18. The balance of the fleet will be recategorized by the end of 2008. Under the reclassification of stateroom categories, Carnival's accommodations will now be categorized based on a variety of locations such as midship, aft and forward, as well as proximity to key public areas and specific deck. The deck still factors in the stateroom categories but the location within each deck is also a factor. The new categories will help define staterooms more specifically with more segmentation in terms of categories that hone in on the location within each deck. Cabin assignments and pricing on existing reservations will not be affected. Staying fit on a cruise has never been easier or more fun, as Princess Cruises introduces new ways for passengers to stay active on their vacation - including the industry's first in-room fitness program, fun yoga classes for kids and teens, and a new array of Lotus Spa classes featuring the three vital components of balanced health. Designed for cruisers of all ages and activity levels, these innovative fitness choices will help passengers get moving in the privacy of their own staterooms with Fitness@Sea hosted by celebrity trainer Gillian Clark; strike a pose in an interactive yoga class for junior cruisers; or test their mettle with a "Tour de France" spin class as part of the line's new Core.Balance.Strength. program. That's it for this edition! Stay tuned for more seafaring news coming soon! Pat can't wait to talk to you! 1-866-424-1090. Come on, let's go cruisin'! Smooth sailing, Teri |
